it was never about the kid, it was about teaching Batman a lesson about why you don't let children fight grown men, that could be achieved without the need to actually hurt the child involved… Well mostly, but Jason suspects that a pain free kidnapping isn’t exactly the worst psychological damage incurred by the newest Robin over the course of his career.

Cuh sounds and guh sounds are difficult for Tim. Mommy says he'll get the hang of them if he keeps practicing though.
“That's okay, Tim,” blue man smiles again. “How old are you?”
Tim knows this one. He's been working really hard on his numbers. “Four!” He holds up four fingers. “That's this many!”

Four-year-old Tim is having a sleepover with the Waynes. He just wishes he knew when his parents were going to call.
(Meanwhile, Tim's family are trying desperately to avoid letting him know that until yesterday he was seventeen – and that his parents won't call him ever again.)

Once he thinks of it, Tim can’t stop thinking about it. He wakes in the night, memories echoing in his ears, Jason’s warm body at his back, and thinks about it.
He puts on Robin with shaky fingers, can’t look Dick in the face when he yanks it off abruptly, and he thinks about it.
Jason presents him with a different costume, Babs offers him the idea of running backend like she does, and Tim still can’t get the thought of his mind.

In some tellings, Cain is described as biting Abel to death. Jason imagines what that first moment felt like, the one in which Cain realized his brother was no longer breathing. Did he stare down at the blood on his hands? Or did he reach for his brother’s face, forgetting himself, staining the side of his mouth with red? Was his first thought to pray to God to save him, before he recalled that God loved Abel more than he loved him? Did he try to shake his brother awake, did he bring his fingers into the open wound? Did he think, Oh, God, what have I done? What have I done?

Robin is a hero. Tim becomes Robin. The hardest part, he thinks, is that he barely feels like a hero at all, and he’s not sure what he’s doing wrong. Day after day something in his chest will crack and itch, but he will not scratch it. He’ll be afraid of what’ll come spilling out if he does. He’ll wonder if it’s a speck of rot. One day they’ll be going over the rooftops, he and Dick, and Dick will crack a joke Tim doesn’t understand, and it’ll hit him that it’s likely something Jason would have understood immediately. Tim will glance over his shoulder and say, half-jokingly, It sort of feels like I’m chasing a ghost, and Dick will look at him like he’s already dead, like he has just realized Jason is dead all over again, and Tim won’t speak again for the rest of the night.
He wonders what it would be like to be missed like Jason is. He doesn’t think he’s ever been missed before.
In which Tim Drake ponders on what a hero isn't, and what a brother can be.

He was bleeding out somewhere – everywhere – and thinking was getting harder and harder as the edges of his vision turned dark and blurry. It was harder to see the face of his old hero, his stretched out wings casting a shadow over them both. Those wings – Robin’s wings –, used to mean everything to him. Now they just mocked him. A sharp laugh echoed through the empty tower.
“Cuckoos can't fly with broken wings.”
As the world turned darker and the pain seemed to swallow him whole, all he could think of was how he hadn't been a bird in a long time.

One of Bruce’s many cars pulls up, and Jason waves goodbye to the secretary, opens the door and sits, starting to ask, “So, why’d you pull me out, A?”
For a few seconds, there isn’t a response. Then, an unfamiliar voice replies; “To give you the opportunity of saving his life.”
Jason’s already reaching for the doorhandle, ready to open the door and–
“If you run, Alfred Pennyworth will die.”
That stops him in his tracks. Slowly, Jason turns his head to look at the driver.
“Buckle your seatbelt, Robin,” the Red Hood says.
OR:
Tim Drake died a hero, one whose shoes Jason can't possibly fill.
Unrelatedly, the Red Hood is in town. He's got a robin to steal, two bats to kill, and luckily, a lot of time to spend with his kidnappee.

Dove has belonged to Master Beren for some time now, after being given to the man as a gift and, miraculously, not thrown away again even when Beren expressed that he had no need or want for a young brothel slave. He's beginning to trust the kindness that Beren shows him, and truly believe that this house might be safer than anywhere else.
He gathers his courage to ask Beren to buy Fox--his friend and one-time protector, a fellow slave at the brothel. Beren brings a second boy into his home--a deeply suspicious, frightened boy who's absolutely certain that this apparent kindness and safety isn't going to last.
