He’s not sure when his life became so entwined with Merlin’s. Perhaps it was that first day on the train, seeing that pale-faced little boy by the sweets trolley. Their first potions lesson together, their fight in the Great Hall, when that Griffin was rampaging in the forest.
He hadn’t known then; you don’t see someone’s face for the first time and think ‘one day I will not be able to live without you.’
But Arthur thinks it now. He’s been thinking it for quite some time.
Arthur and Merlin have always been joined at the hip, despite the fractious start to their friendship. Arthur's not sure when it became something more, or if it's always been there. But when he heads to Merlin's for Christmas, it becomes too huge to deal with - Gwaine's new interest in Merlin, Morgana's strange distance and the odd whisper that calls to Arthur in the middle of the night...

Presently, he finds himself on the bridge between the Campus center and the Hieronymus library, his toes barely skimming the water of the Pathetic Pond. It has one single lily pad in it, no lily, because someone replaces the lily pad every time it starts to get yucky. He's been tripped on at least twice, but he doesn't really care about getting stomped. He's too busy in his head reminiscing on Keith's pretty face all red and blushed, stammering in the cafe booth.
Lance is going to get that boy in bed. He doesn't care how long it takes or how many of Keith's stupid guard walls; he wants to know how his stupid big hands and stupid thick thighs feel when they're caging Lance down and holding him all nice and tight.
