Summary
During Spiderman #800, the Venom symbiote temporarily leaves Eddie and goes with Spiderman to help him defeat the Red Goblin, a merge of the Carnage symbiote and the Green Goblin. During the battle, Flash Thompson is mortally wounded. Spiderman tells the symbiote to leave so he can trick the Green Goblin into fighting him without Carnage, the the symbiote slinks away, never to be seen for the rest of the issue.
So what happens when it returns to Eddie? The two have a conversation about loss and letting go.

Summary
After joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, Flash is kidnapped by Skrulls and separated from his symbiote. The Venom symbiote, who had been sedated and chemically lobotomized by drugs in Flash's bloodstream given to him by the US government and later the Secret Avengers, is now awake in space with a Flash it hadn't ever been able to have a real conversation with. But the symbiote hasn't been able to eat in years, and now the full force of it's hunger is finally hitting it. And there's something else. A psychic summons whispering to it in the darkest hours of the night that the symbiote isn't sure if it can trust.
Or: A rewrite of Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #21-23, with a healthy dose of added scenes

What if the current Eddie and the symbiote each encountered the younger version of the other? What if the current symbiote told twenty-year-old Eddie Brock that they had two children together? What if they had the chance to share something with each other? And so, on the 37th New Year's Eve since their debut, they reunited (thanks to the magicians of New York)! In short, it's a New Year's celebration, wishing everyone a happy New Year!
A slight warning: current Eddie × past symbiote, and for clarity, the symbiote is referred to as "it."
