“Alright, kiddo,” Laura said, "just… do your best here, alright? I think this placement… it could be good for you.”
“It’s an emergency placement,” Ponyboy pointed out, barely holding himself back from rolling his eyes.
“Yes - well, even so,” Laura continued. “Listen - call me if you do have any trouble, okay? I mean it, kiddo. Just… I’m in your corner, remember?”
Ponyboy just shrugged, finding it hard to believe after all these many years of Laura complaining about his short-lived placements. If anything, it worried him more that he was being given this reminder - she didn’t normally tell him to call her if anything was the matter. Did she know something about the Curtis brothers that Pony ought to be privy to? Or had she also made the connection between Darrel’s imposing stature and Pony’s track record with attracting less-than-friendly placements?

Summary
The Curtis family has been a broken shard of what they used to be ever since the accident. Darry and Sodapop had stood over three grave markers at the funeral: two caskets holding the crushed bodies of their parents beside an empty nameplate labelled Ponyboy Curtis. It's been four years since he went missing from the scene of the railroad track. The case has been cold for just as long, and nearly everyone in Tulsa has lost hope of seeing the baby Curtis brother's face again.
His gang has never lost faith, though, and it proves its worth on the Friday afternoon that Ponyboy Curtis, in all his presumed-dead glory, knocks on the front door like he's not allowed to simply walk in.

Until someone got a lucky shot with a brand new, and extra nasty weapon that left Danny fighting not to just retreat into his core.
Good thing Frostbite told him about a way to condense himself to save energy and heal. Sure, making himself shrink is a little weird, but as long as it gets the job done, right? A quick portal jump and he'll be home and can just rest and relax until he's strong enough to go back to normal.
...Maybe he jumped a little too far. Because he's never heard of this Gotham place, and who the heck is Batman? Wait, they've got superheros here?! (And they're cute. Oh no.)
