The dead eyes of his brother turn to look at Tommy, the joints in his neck cracking as he comes alive. “Why did you leave me here, Toms?” Blood sprays with every word, drenching Tommy’s shirt.
“What?”“You could’ve saved me, but instead you choose to stand to the side.”
“How was I supposed to know you were here?” Tommy exclaims, his voice trembling. “I tried to help everyone else! I really did, please!” This is his fault, if Tommy had been a bit faster, if he hadn’t frozen up, he might’ve gotten here quick enough.

Or: Tommy never wanted to move. He was doing perfectly fine away from New York and its weird inhabitants, but of course, Tommy’s an unlucky prick, and leaves everything he knew behind to cross the Atlantic.
However, he didn’t anticipate the spider that would get loose at his uncle’s presentation, biting Tommy and shoving all the responsibilities that came with having superpowers onto his shoulders. Now Tommy’s carefully constructed walls that are his life are tumbling down, Pandora’s Box spilling all of its evils.

Summary
The boy standing in the mirror wasn’t Wilbur.
He blinked a few times, and the boy in the mirror did too. He lifted a hand, with the stranger doing the same. When he flipped the reflection off, the bony and bruised hand flipped him off in return.
“This isn’t me,” Wilbur whispered in the stranger’s voice, the reflection mouthing the words in time with him.
This wasn’t him and yet the reflection in the mirror was telling him it was. The boy had curly blonde hair that was styled similarly to Wilbur’s, except the fringe wasn’t nearly as long. Wide set blue eyes stared at him, and after a moment of being frozen, he squeezed them shut, wondering if his reflection would be back to normal when he opened them.
His eyes blinked open, and he saw he was still blonde and blue-eyed. Fuck.
or, Wilbur is bored of the monotony of his life in a small town, and wishes for a new life. Meanwhile, Tommy is tired of the isolation that comes with living in the city, and wonders what it would be like to have a closer family.
