—real.
Zuko’s teeth dig into his bottom lip, warm copper bursting into the far corners of his mouth. “Why?”

Summary
And if Ty Lee notices the way Katara’s breath hitches, she refrains from commenting. Instead, she merely moves a little closer to Katara as they exit the courtyard, arm in arm, leaving Katara to wonder how much closer time will allow them to get.
(Ty Lee is Katara’s bodyguard. But it’s just a temporary assignment, meaning there’s no risk of any unintended consequences. Right?)

Summary
“I love you, too, my dear.” Kanna exhales a shaky breath. “I’d never forgive myself if you don’t… if you left without knowing that.”
Katara doesn’t miss her grandmother’s change of phrase. Kanna’s unspoken words are a truth, an ice in her veins Katara has tried so very hard to ignore.
This might be goodbye.

Nida paused. A smile twitched at the corners of her lips. “Well… There has always been more to bending than sheer ability.” She kissed the top of Kanna’s head, earning a delighted giggle from her daughter. “Would you like to know the most important rule?”
Kanna sat up, nodding eagerly. “Yes!”
“To speak the language of the waters…” Her mother winked at her. “The first thing you must do is listen.”
(“Ultimately, there can be no complete healing until we have restored our primal trust in life.” – Georg Feuerstein. A Kanna-centric fic.)

Summary
As a child, Katara had always dreamed of meeting her soulmate, of being swept off her feet by some dashing stranger, of hearing her name fall from their lips like snowflakes fluttering down from the pink sky above. She’d found solace in this perfect person, and she’d used their unlimited potential to distract herself from the horrors of war ever surrounding her icy home.
The day Katara learned she didn’t have a soulmate, she’d wept for hours.
For Katara and Aang, fate works in mysterious ways.

Summary
Then her shoulders fell, the inky shadows deepening across her face as Katara sighed and pulled her knees into her chest. “I just—I have to know you’re okay, Aang. That’s all. It’s not a big deal.”
Aang blinked, her words sinking into his heart like a stone into quicksand. “Know I’m okay,” he repeated, “or know I’m alive?”
When Aang falls, Katara is always there to catch him. But maybe that’s part of the problem.

Summary
Kuzon grinned, shifting on the tree branch to face Aang directly. The wood creaked as their legs continued to dangle off the sides, bare feet occasionally brushing. The evening breeze threaded around the two of them, rustling the tree’s dying leaves and sending Kuzon’s hair that had fallen from his topknot in a million different directions. “It was with Bumi.”
Aang’s jaw dropped. “It was not.”

Summary
Song began to expect him. At the beginning of every month, the Avatar would visit her small town, occasionally bringing a guest with him. He’d lend a hand with treating patients for at least 24 hours, and then he’d be gone. Maybe with a wink, or a gentle touch of her shoulder. Once, he’d disappeared with a chaste kiss to her forehead.
But he could never stay.

Summary
During their most recent interactions, Aang couldn’t deny that something had… maybe changed between them. To Aang, they’d grown closer than ever, holding hands and tackling each other into hugs on sight and finishing each other’s sentences. Sometimes a joke, sometimes planned, and sometimes not.
Aang couldn’t go without visiting Kuzon one last time. Not when he hadn’t - he hadn’t -
(A pre-canon Kuzaang fic. Fate is a cruel mistress.)
