    “You need to purr more often, darling. You must not be getting enough attention,” the vampire murmurs disapprovingly, carding a hand through Abolish’s hair. Abolish lets out a small noise of satisfaction at the action, then stiffens slightly as the fog in his mind finally clears enough to recognise the voice.

    “Scott?” He mutters weakly, the words raspy as they come out of his sore throat. Scott’s purrs increase slightly in volume and Abolish involuntarily relaxes back against Scott’s chest.

    In the middle of winter, not much grows. The lack of growth doesn’t stop plants from existing, though.

    A single peony blossom lay open on the grass, covered in a sheet of frost. The delicate flower was supposed to die off in early autumn. Yet here the blossom lay, bright pink and unaltered, pristine despite the surrounding death, the very cold meant to kill it keeping it whole.

    As he continued onwards, Owen found his mind wandering back to the rosy blossom. It reminded him a bit too much of someone he knew…
