The genial smile stuck to his face starts to burn so he lifts the cup to his lips to have a few brief moments of respite. He’s whispered the words under his breath on the drive over, grabbing every last second until he was standing at the door asking if Adaine was home.

Adaine sputters, kneeing herself in the chin as she flails. “What? No, What? Don’t do that!”
“Honestly Adaine, you’re impossible to please. Considering the insults you were hurling at him, I thought you would be eager for the opportunity.”
She’s got a point. Those insults were particularly viscous. But still…“I don’t want him dead.”

Summary
The effect is instantaneous, though it takes him a moment to register it. A subtle rumbling fills the chamber, reverberating through his skull like a gunshot. It only takes a moment before the floor erupts, a viscous black miasma oozing outwards from the center of the circle. Goro scrambles backwards and watches as the ground begins to roil, rapidly tumbling into itself until it forms an inky void on the verge of boiling. It’s only as he watches a clawed hand emerge from the abyss that he realizes he can’t sense Akira with him anymore.
It's immediately evident that whatever he's witnessing isn't fully human. Black claws dig into the ground, leveraging against the floor to hoist itself out of the chasm. Another clawed hand follows, leading way to a crown of curls burdened heavy with the weight of blood.
