Summary
When Eddie Munson first laid eyes on Chrissy Cunningham that day at lunch, he thought doing a drug-deal with her was the weirdest thing that was going to happen to him that year.
When she asked for something stronger and then agreed to carpool with him to the trailer park… Well, things couldn’t get weirder than that. And he had seen plenty of weird stuff growing up.
He was wrong, of course.
Eddie Munson must face a ghost from his past: 001 has returned. A powerless guy like him? He stands no chance, but with the help of The Party and a pretty cheerleader, he thinks the odds are pretty good.

Frank kneels. He just drops like habit, like a man in prayer. He loosens his clerical collar and mutters praise under his breath. He hikes her dress higher and looks up at Mel, ready to recite his vespers.

Summary
He told her once that she was the only editor who didn’t try to wring the wild out of him. She liked that. She would have told him to reuse the phrase in a column if she wasn’t selfish enough to keep it for herself.
Langdon is the star columnist of popular wilderness adventure magazine The Backpacker. Mel is the editor who helps him stay that way.
When Langdon starts blowing through deadlines and stops answering calls, Mel decides the best course of action is to meet him where he's at.

Summary
“When’s the last time you washed your hands?” Mel asked.
Frank paused, confused, and then shrugged a shoulder. “Uh - two minutes ago?”
“Have you touched anything since?”
“No. I mean, nothing besides you.”
“Alright. And - do you trust me?”
“Yeah, I trust you.”
“Um, can you - can I do something, and - and can you not laugh at me or be weirded out because I really need this and… and you offered, you remember, you offered to do what you could, no matter what?”
He nodded.
“You remember, Frank, you remember that you said that? You remember that you promised?”
“Yes,” he stressed. Really, what was the weirdest thing she could do? Recite all 118 elements of the periodic table? List all the books of the bible? Rap Hamilton at him really fast without breaking eye contact?
Take his hand and stick two of his fingers in her mouth?

Summary
The moment the pieces fit together Cassie has to scoff at her own stupidity.
The picture keeps shining back at her from his phone, no matter how long she stares at it. One sigh. Two heartbeats. Three taps of her foot. His screen doesn’t turn off. Four shakes of her head. Five blinks. Six seconds.
The fool must have disabled automatic the screen dim feature just so he could longingly and dreamily and stupidly stare at a photo of Mel, despite the fact that Cassie is pretty sure every time Langdon closes his eyes he can see Mel perfectly in his mind.
Cassie lets her emotions battle it out for a second inside her. In the end, both disgust and fondness tie for first place.
It’s nice to see Langdon like this, of course. Pathetically pining, sure, but also awkwardly excited. Carefully optimistic for all that he is worried and tentative, too.
(or, five times someone sees a picture of mel on frank's phone + one time someone sees a picture of frank on mel's phone)
