Summary
Two boys step through a portal in Miyagi. Only one of them returns home.
Twenty years after the fact, Hajime finds himself cursed by the Witch of the Waste, and goes to seek help from none other than the Great Wizard Oikawa: master of the Moving Castle, eater of hearts, and the inevitable bane of Hajime's existence. Unable to speak to Oikawa about his curse, however, he makes a bargain with the wizard’s fire demon instead, who promises Hajime's freedom from the curse in exchange for his own. As Hajime sets out to uncover the truth behind the wizard and his curse, he realizes that his and Oikawa’s lives may be more entangled than he could have ever imagined.

Summary
Now Tooru looks at the pothos, how it cascades like a waterfall and curls around the windowframe; how it takes up a larger space in Tooru’s lived-in apartment than anything else ever has. He wonders what Iwaizumi would think of it all: the new pot he’d bought after it had outgrown the one on his windowsill, the little hooks he’d put up to keep its longer stems in place. The endless yield of love and the extent of its longing.
Still, he lets it continue to grow.
Or: How love, too, is something you make bloom.

Summary
“Nice to meet you, Oikawa-sensei,” remarks Iwa-chan, reaching out a hand. It takes a second for Tooru to realize it’s an offer for a handshake—and another for her to start breathing again after Iwa-chan clasps her hand in hers. Everything about it is familiar: the slope of her knuckles, the lines of her palm, the soft press of flesh underneath her fingers.
“I’m Dr. Iwaizumi Hajime,” Iwa-chan says, and Tooru wonders how unprofessional it is for them to still be holding hands.
Or: Five long years after going their separate ways, marine scientists Tooru and Hajime meet on the same shore.

Thirty minutes is all Hajime needs to get through the bumper-to-bumper traffic on Guadalupe Bridge.
Thirty minutes of trying to avoid the sultry gaze of five gigantic Oikawa Toorus in various poses, looming over the delightful, sun-speckled viridian of Pasig River.

"How about you? Staying strong with that boyfriend of yours?”
Hajime colors. “Oikawa’s not my boyfriend. He’s my—”
“Best friend, yeah, yeah,” she snorts. “Bespren lang daw,” she mutters under her breath.
He pretends not to hear anything. “Yeah, well. Except for the fact that he just hung up on me because I told him I’m still gonna be in the Philippines when he plans to go back to Japan next week, we’re fine.”
“Seriously?”
“Seriously,” Hajime replies gravely.
Or: On missing your long-distance best friend, figuring out what home means to you, and everything else in between.

Summary
“What am I going to do without you, Iwa-chan?”
“That isn’t something you have to think about, idiot.”
“But what if you have to leave?” Oikawa whispered. “What if your family comes to find you?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Hajime answered firmly. “I’ll always know how to find you.”
Or: Hajime would know Tooru anywhere.

Then he is reaching, reaching across the distance between them. Across the Pacific, the Caribbean. The Sea of Japan. Hirose River. The puddle of water that would gather on the doorstep of his childhood home on rainy days.
Then nothing at all.
