On the better days — the worst, really — it's easier than ever to look at Olruggio and feel like he belongs.
Sharing the same space for the rest of their lives; accompanied by bright little girls that fill his heart with pride. He was doomed from the start.
Or, Qifrey's all grown up, and Olruggio has never once strayed from his side. Teaching students is difficult, he finds, even moreso than finding them, and rebuilding the house.

Once Olruggio leaves, after having cleaned up the shards on the wooden floor, Qifrey is very determined to tear through the fence outside.

The words make Qifrey flinch. If Olruggio focuses, he can remember him saying—

Oh, but Olruggio does not care. This man he loves, this silly man, so stubborn in his strange selflessness he is unable to see, is all Olruggio— is all Olruggio is. Were it possible, he would bury himself within his open ribs, and curl up there and never move again. His heart aches and his eyes water.
Or. Olruggio and Qifrey are stuck in a snowstorm, and Olruggio doesn't know why.
Qifrey is hurt.
What Olruggio does know, is how to fix it.
(It's not the first time he has to burn someone's wound shut.)

Summary
Satoru always let down Infinity because of him, for him, when he was around — he’d allow himself to be touched only by him, he let him in while still keeping everyone else out. The absence of someone standing by his side hurt him so much he was barely able to breathe. Satoru always allowed Suguru to touch him. Even after everything, Satoru still let him. Even as Gojo and Geto, he was still allowed in. Satoru knows that if Suguru had truly meant to kill him, he could’ve done it years ago.
But Suguru is dead because of Satoru. Not in spite (Suguru left despite of him being there, not because, but it still hurt and he still blamed himself for it. This is different from that) but because. Satoru struck last. Satoru landed the final blow. Satoru watched him as he bled out and then killed him before he could die on his own. In a way, it was merciful. In another, it was torture, to have let him live this long.
Or, Satoru and grief.

"Congrats to you and Qifrey, I guess, but it's a bit stupid to exchange hat ornaments." Easthies says, dipping his spoon into the dewberry pudding on his plate. "They're a sign of who your teachers are, after all."
"I don't meddle in your youthful pursuits, Olruggio, but I'd prefer you two choose another accessory to exchange if you want to show your relationship," his master says, his expression somewhere in between cautious and disapproving. "Your hat ornaments aren't really appropriate for that sort of thing, you see."
"So, Olruggio," Alaira says, grinning from ear to ear. "Any news you want to share with me? I'm all ears."
Every single person in the Great Hall seems to have something to say about this, everyone except for Qifrey. And Olruggio desperately needs any kind of explanation from his friend, because all these rumors are getting too much for him, and feelings he cannot quite understand are starting to creep into his mind.
or: Olruggio reminisces about the first of his many heartbreaks. It must be Coco and that kid's wee bracelets that pulled this memory from among the other dusty ones. Or maybe it's starry skies like tonight's that's making his heart bleed.

After the removal of the Silverwood, Qifrey still struggles to be intimate with Olruggio. He's tried over and over again and failed each and every time.
But finally, he makes a breakthrough..."I thought I'd be able to this time. I thought I could finally get past it." Qifrey's voice wavers. The tears come before he can stop them. He tries to bite into his lip to hold back the sob that's steadily climbing up his throat.
"Qifrey..." Olly's voice is too soft, too kind. It makes the broken parts of Qifrey fracture just a little more.
Olruggio swipes his thumb over the tears on Qifrey's cheek. "It's alright, love. I've got you."
