Summary
Philosophers liked to pose the question, observation against perception: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Aziraphale would argue that sound was something witnessed, and Crowley would argue that if sound had to be witnessed, then why was virtue unwitnessed a nobler thing?
But first, Crowley would point out that he himself had fallen, alone and without witness, and it had bloody fucking hurt.

As they’d glided silently over the dark, chilly waters of the ocean, Crowley had allowed himself to relax a little and be held. Normally he’d be the one doing all the carrying - he was a very tactile person and much preferred it that way - but every so often, he could see the appeal of being cradled against the bare chest of a literal angel.
