Summary
Elphaba’s gaze lowers, the weight of her statement pressing down on them. It wraps around Glinda’s throat and squeezes out all the air in her lungs, slowly suffocating her; it feels like barbed wire is pressing into her flesh, the horror of it all stealing her ability to speak.
“You’ve been…” Elphaba starts, her voice hoarse. She pauses, clears her throat, and starts again. “You’ve been one of the few good things in my life, Galinda.”
Glinda swallows past the blockade in her throat. “Nobody calls me that anymore,” she whispers.
Elphaba cracks a weak smile. “You will always be Galinda to me.”
Glinda’s lower lip trembles again, another wave of tears rushing into her burning eyes. Some of them escape her lashes and trace uneven paths down her cheeks, but she blinks the rest of them away.

"Rumi!"
Rumi startled awake with a gasp, her eyes flying open. A sharp pain bloomed from her side and she moaned.
"Rumi, calm down," said a familiar voice. "You stay to calm, or they'll find us."
Rumi's blurred vision started sharpening, bringing colors and shapes back into focus. She looked around wildly, and felt a gasp catch in the back of her throat when she saw who was kneeling down beside her, slightly leaning over her.
"Jinu?" she managed to choke out.
Jinu shushed her sharply, placing a finger over his lips.

Summary
"Rumi," Mira said sharply. A flinch ran through Rumi, and she saw a guilty look on Mira's face. She'd never been the most patient in their group—that would be Rumi—and she could be snappish at the best of times—years of building a protective shell against harsh words during her childhood had seen to that—but she always meant well. Rumi knew she loved Rumi and Zoey to death and would never hurt them.
(Mira's wol-do came up, blade glimmering like the purest strands of starlight it was made of, glowing in the dimness of their surroundings. The look on her face was blazing, hard, etched with harsh lines, though the cracks beneath were flooded with sorrow and wounded shock and betrayal, because Rumi was a liar and she had lied and she had betrayed them—)
Rumi quickly shook her head out of the abyss of self-hatred and self-loathing she'd fallen into, trying to block out the image of Mira's wounded face as she pointed her weapon at Rumi.

Summary
"Let's go home and take a look at you, okay?" Mira asked, clearly picking up on Rumi's spiral but looking unsure of its cause. Rumi shook her head quickly.
"It's fine, I—" Movement caught the corner of her eye, and Rumi turned her head sharply. It was a split-second, but the sight of a familiar silhouette looking around the corner was enough to clue her in. Her eyes widened.
"What is it?" Zoey asked, glancing around in alarm.
"Nothing. Thought I saw something." Rumi was proud of how nonchalant she'd managed to sound, despite the frantic galloping of her heart inside her chest. "You girls go back to the penthouse. I'll just take a walk."

“I’m still what, Rio?” Agatha snaps. “Not pregnant. Certainly not a mother, no thanks to you.” Rio flinches, either at Agatha’s tone or her words, Agatha can’t be sure. But it eggs her on. She’s feeling particularly cruel. “You took him from me.”
