Summary
“You said you need a pilot, ma’am? Captain Pete Mitchell, United States Navy. I’ve been an aviator for 35 years.”
She can feel her eyes watering up in relief. Thank you, God, she sends heavenward, into the clouds even higher than their cruising altitude.
“Can you fly an A320?”
Captain Mitchell smiles at her and, good lord, he really is a miracle.
“Ma’am, if it has wings, I can fly it,” he winks and adds, “Hell, I can probably manage even if it doesn’t.”

Sherlock studied James face, the slight downturn to his eyelids that painted him a permanent hedonist. There was something in them of Caravaggio's Bacchus, the sly mouth always pulled into a half smile.
James' eyes flicked up to his. Sherlock near jumped out of skin.

Summary
Maverick doesn’t regret it when he takes the hit, when the last thing he hears before he ejects is Rooster screaming his name.
But then he wakes. Not to a vast, white snowfield behind enemy lines—but to an inverted cockpit of an F-14.
And to Goose, alive and well in the seat behind him.

Or; the time-travel fix-it in which TG:M Maverick wakes up at the start of TG (1986).

Summary
Sometimes, very late at night, lying only a wall away from one of his closest friends, he wonders what it would be like to tell someone. Maybe it’s finally time to let someone in on even the deepest parts of himself. He falls asleep to the idea, letting the concept play out in a way that isn’t as tragic as he expects it to be in reality. Disappointment engulfs him in the morning when he knows he won’t do it anyway.
..
Dennis Whitaker was sent away to a wilderness therapy camp when he was sixteen. He's only coming to terms with it twelve years later.
