Summary
“You’re back,” Mike states as his wide eyes catch Will’s.
Will just tilts his head at him as he takes his seat. “Yeah, I said I would be.”
“Right, obviously,” Mike mutters before stabbing his chicken sandwich with his toothpick.
“What?” Will asks despite every inkling in his body telling him to drop this conversation and just pick up his burger. “Did you think I was just going to leave?”
“No, I-”
“Because I wouldn’t just…” Will cuts himself off before he can finish and looks down at his plate instead, the unsaid words resting bitter on his tongue. I wouldn’t just leave with no explanation. Not like you did.
----------After everything they've been through, it is Mike who rips off the final band-aid of their friendship. Years pass of Will pretending like he never thinks about Mike at all. Years pass of him forging his own life and finally letting go.
But when a young boy shows up at Will's apartment, it becomes clear that he'll never fully be done with Mike Wheeler.

Summary
Dustin reached over to flick him in the middle of the forehead. “It'll be me and you, this summer, asshole. And because I am a top tier friend, you're welcome, by the way, I have secured us jobs working at the radio station this summer!”
Will opened an eye to peer at him. Dustin’s curls were sticking to his forehead under his hat and he looked ridiculous in his Hawkins High gold t-shirt and gym shorts. “You got us jobs?”
“I told you, Buddy!” Dustin leaned back beside him. “You and me this summer. This is going to be our summer.”
Or
Summer in Hawkins was supposed to be easy.
Instead, Will Byers gets a new house, a family that argues about Eggos and shower schedules, a brother who comes out before he does, and a best friend who keeps acting like Will is “just a friend.”
With the Party drifting, feelings piling up, and Dustin announcing Operation: Best Summer Ever, Will tries to make it through a summer that looks suspiciously like 1985—but hopefully ends better.

Summary
“So. Logical conclusion?” Dustin grinned down at him, pleased. “You’re in love with Mike and heartbroken that he and El made up. You’re welcome.”
Will sighed. “Dustin, I already knew I was in love with Mike.”
Will Byers is not avoiding his friends—he’s just busy.
Busy avoiding Mike Wheeler, busy lying about homework, and busy trying (and failing) to get over the boy he’s been in love with for years.
Unfortunately, Dustin Henderson has noticed. And he has a plan.
