Akito is, once again, engaged to be married and time is ticking on Kyoya's time as a bachelor. So the former Ouran Host Club hatch a plan: a matchmaking game. The aim of the game? To give Kyoya the freedom to choose his own bride on merit and personal benefit before his father can do it for him.
With Kyoya’s (reluctant) agreement, Kaoru’s scheming, and a list of eligible bachelorettes from the Hitachiin client list, it’s set to be the scheme of the century.
That is, if Kyoya and Kaoru can put aside their feelings long enough to pull it off.

Summary
Things have finally calmed down to business as usual—as much as business is ever usual, for the Ouran High School Host Club—and Kaoru is feeling some tried and true Hitachiin-brand boredom. Seeing this, Kyoya issues an intriguing challenge: he plans on winning a certain game in exactly five years. If Kaoru wants to beat him, all he has to do is figure out the goal of the game before Kyoya wins it.
As if a tried and true Hitachiin could turn down a challenge like that.

Summary
Kaoru ends up telling Kyoya about Alice, and the world on the other side of the mirror. Looking Glass, he corrects himself, and speaks of rooms quite like here, only the paintings in them talking, the clocks with faces. All wonders, he adds, laughing at himself, remembering Hikaru, ten years old, eyes huge and the future like Humpty Dumpty in their clasped hands –- as if, the moment they let go, it would break like an egg.
“In other words, you’re scared,” Kyoya says, and Kaoru wants to throw something at him. Another difference and he doesn’t want it –- wants him and Hikaru to be the same, neither of them hesitating before they make a leap, say a word, take a step.
Or, Kaoru, Kyoya, and the love story they never asked for.

Cassandra's voice softened into something almost apologetic. “Councilor Salo has proposed a union. Not between families... but with you. Himself.”
Caitlyn blinked, her mouth parting. “You’re joking.”
Her mother’s expression remained unreadable. “He believes a partnership with the Kiramman family would be mutually beneficial. It would secure a personal alliance. Political leverage. And the coal.”
“He’s twice my age,” Caitlyn snapped. “He smells like pipe smoke and has the charisma of a wet towel. This is grotesque.”
Cassandra’s voice was calm, level. “This is the world we live in. Steam is the future. And if we do not take a place at the helm, someone else will.”

Caitlyn needs to find someone to help her identify and develop a local coal supply to avoid being used like a pawn by her own family. Will a chance meeting of an infuriating but charming miner - Vi - be the key? Or will Caitlyn lose herself to machinations of a power-hungry Silco?
