"You've reached Raven Brooks Middle School," A familiar voice over the other end started. "This is Valeria Abanante, how can I help you?"
"Hi, Principal Abanante. This is Trinity Bales... I might be absent today."
"You already are," Principal Abanante remarked.
"What I mean is that I've got... a bit of a family emergency right now. I don't know if I'll be able to come in."
She could practically hear Abanante frown. "A family emergency? Can I talk to your parents?"
Trinity grimaced.
"That's the thing."

Tired as she is of the whole "being the only person to realize someone is in danger" schtick, when Trinity Bales's parents disappear the night after her rescue mission, she once again takes on the role of the rescuer in hopes that she and her appointed "rescue squad" can get to the bottom of the mystery of her parents' absence before whatever's taken them from her can have its way.Series

Summary
Two grown men, it had taken, to grab the girl by the arms and pull her along to town square. One of them had taken her in the middle of the night to be imprisoned, and even then, their little mass murderer had fought with just as much strength as the man who'd come to take her away. This time, when she was fully awake and conscious, there was no way that only one man could bring her. Usually it only took one- most prisoners, they suspected, wanted to be hanged with dignity, knowing they had nowhere to go and no way to escape- but the girl didn't stop fighting, didn't stop yelling and trying to pull back. The precursor to her execution had become a spectacle of its own, with a crowd forming like the audience to a freak show to see who would manage to overpower the other party: the little girl who burned down the almshouse or the ever-growing team of men to force her to face her punishment.

Summary
Trinity Bales went to church a few times, when she was little. It stopped when one day, the pastor leaned over and whispered something into her mother's ear; without another word, she took Trinity by the hand and pulled her out of the church.
For years, she'd wondered if it was her fault, if she'd forsaken God so cruelly that even the pastor she'd never spoken to before knew.
There were old wounds on her upper arms from the holes she'd picked in her skin since the incident, as if she could pull out something evil festering inside her like an infection. But her childhood therapist had taught her how to avoid what he'd described as anxious tics, and so the wounds stayed old, even when the memory of whatever sin she'd committed resurfaced.
That was, until she saw Luanne and Jay Roth stapling missing posters with their son Nicky's school picture on the telephone poles down the street. Then, suddenly, she couldn't stop.

Gerda had hardly been coherent when Valeria had taken her home after Halloween's "incident", to the point that about halfway through the otherwise-silent walk home, Valeria took pity on the younger girl and let her sleep over at her house. It was a little unsurprising to see she wasn't any better now, even with two days to process.
Not that those two days had done anything for any of the rest of them. That was why they were sitting here, talking about Gerda's stupid alien mask instead of the mineshaft Theodore's older brother- according to the missing posters, his name had been Franklin Peterson- had fallen into at their own faults, or the fact that Marvin had demanded them to dispose of the only witness afterward, or whatever it was that had come out of the mineshaft, or that they had sworn not to tell another soul, or god forbid that Theodore seemed to have his own reason not to either.

Summary
It started as a one-time thing at first - she had awoken from yet another nightmare, the image of her digital ghost attending her own real-world funeral and the blurry visages of her mourning parents burned into her brain. Her attempts to fall back asleep were futile - staying still in her bed with nothing more than her own mind as company was practically torture - so she opted to leave. Take a stroll around the grounds, sit by the lake to collect herself a bit, nothing big. And then she went back to sleep. Until it happened again, and again. And pretty soon this cycle of awakening and wandering and going back to sleep kept happening until it was basically a nightly occurrence. The downside is of course that she’s usually sleep deprived in the morning, needing to be shot awake either by an extra-strong cup of coffee or a cruel startle from Jax, but it would probably be worse if she didn’t leave her room. Out here, she can calm her thoughts, at least a bit.
