Since blockbuster discovered his identity, Dick feels out of the options, with the villain killing anyone close to him to punish him. He's already lost his circus family, he can't let his vigilante family get hurt too. So when Blockbuster blows up Dick's apartment building, Dick decides he's out of options, and uses the event to fake his death, he won't let anyone else get hurt because of him.

It's all Marly's fault.
He just had to mention 'Jane from Montreal' during an interview. And then JJ went and tweeted about 'Boston Lily'.
And sure, Shane and Ilya are out and married now, but there are some things they had managed to keep private, their burner twitter accounts for one. But with the names Jane and Lily out there and their apparent 'very recognizable talking patterns' it took the internet 0.5 seconds to find them. And now Shane and Ilya have to deal with their friends publicly reacting to things they thought would forever remain anonymous.
Surprising everyone, Ilya is the one suffering the most.

Shane finds videos meant for Ilya's fans. Interviews, workout routines... an underwear ad. One thing leads to another.
Ilya put on the selfie cam and put a hand behind his head to flex his bicep. He snapped a shot, but found that his face was too weirdly neutral. He tried readjusting himself and taking another picture, but, same problem.
“Blegh,” he said out loud. Stupid, he thought. I look like I’m trying not to sneeze.
Then Ilya got distracted by a notification along the top of his screen. A new post from Shane Hollander Updates.
Ilya attempts to curate his nudes, but gets distracted by a fan account he follows. A quick glance turns into something obsessive.
