    Summary

I don’t really understand what I saw. Something dead, or so it seemed. I watched the scholars open it. Dismantle it. I saw them elbows-deep in it.
And I think, truth be told, that I should not have witnessed what I did.

aka. Giant Mech vs Medieval Peasants
(What do you mean the story needs conflict. It's a giant mech in medieval times. What conflict?)

    Summary

“Let’s say you’ve been asleep for a hundred years and when you wake up you’ve lost all your memories, but you defeat the big bad monster like you’ve been told to, because a girl told you to, and because you were in love with her. And after defeating the big bad monster she comes back, only she’s not the person she was a hundred years ago. And you’re not the person you were a hundred years ago. And yet every time you look at her, your chest hurts so bad you think you might be dying.”

He looks up from his breadstick. “Am I dying?”

“No,” Beedle says. “I think you’re stupid.”

    All roads lead to Hateno.

Carbon Canyon's Nextdoor network had been popping off for weeks.

It seemed that all anything could talk about was the young couple that had moved into the house across the street from the Bakers. The almost-manically cheerful young lady and her almost-silent refrigerator box of a husband. Nobody could quite decide what they were. Russian spies, some said, like on The Americans. Witness protection, said others. A Bonnie-and-Clyde-esque couple of fugitives, said a romantically-delusional few. Whatever they were, it made no damn sense to the good residents of Carbon Canyon.

    Compelled them, though.

    Summary

Never, in all his Spirals, had the Drifter ever found Humor. Maybe the Orokin author of his favorite "Tales of Duviri" storybook simply didn't appreciate the art of a good joke. Maybe he was, as Teshin often said with that wry smile, merely a sarcastic little shit.

For the first time in centuries, he smiled so broadly his cheeks hurt.

Maybe some of Mathila's mad happiness was rubbing off on him after all, because despite dying day after day in futile attempts to leave, now that he finally could, he wanted to stay and make his make-believe kingdom a better place.
