Summary
Jane parked herself in front of the table. She was still learning how to match colours (“She’s experimenting and finally feels free to be herself,” as Will would’ve put it): she was wearing one of Jonathan’s dark green-and-ocean-blue plaid shirts, a pair of pants that was definitely too big, and a pink headband with an obnoxiously large bow.
Lucas, bracing for the worst, shrank down behind the table. Dustin was preparing for the impact. Mike, meanwhile, was staring at Will like an idiot, completely hypnotized by his sweet smile.
«What is Valentine’s Day?»-
A bet, a kissing booth. What could possibly go wrong? -

Summary
«It’s like he lost his compass. I thought it was about that accident, but I don’t think that’s the full story. There’s a missing piece and I can’t find it. It’s in the way Mike moves and speaks and… the way he looks at Will. We both know he’s always had a sort of attraction to Will, but now… I’m worried.»
( ... )Will couldn’t see it, but Mike was smiling: a slow, almost predatory curve.
«I-I’ll call… We have to call your parents, Mike, or Hop, I think—»
«It’s not my blood.»
«W… What?»
«It’s not my blood, Will.» Mike’s tone softened suddenly, gentle now, almost teasing. He spoke in that characteristic Will’s voice, as if he was addressing a child who couldn’t yet understand.
A long silence settled over the room. -

Summary
Mike has always been good at creating stories. He brought entire worlds to life and hidden paths bloomed on the tip of his tongue; 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝘩𝑖𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑐 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑎𝑔𝑒. His voice lifted, bright with enthusiasm, as he imagined their adventures in Faraway Land.
Will used to watch him, full of awe and wonder: 𝘩𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝘩𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟. 𝐻𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟.
Will was quieter than Mike. He was used to taking up as little space as possible. The only people with whom he truly felt safe were Mike and his older brother Jonathan. 𝐻𝑖𝑠 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑟: Will was good at drawing, at bringing Mike’s stories to life with colored pencils, with crayons. When speaking made him too anxious, he drew: Will drew his dreams, his nightmares.

«Sunflower.»
Mike smiled. He memorized that detail.
Michael Wheeler memorized everything about William Byers.𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞.
