Regardless, Tommy’s view on The Angel of Death was officially forever changed. After witnessing firsthand just how human Phil truly is. Phil isn’t how the stories tell him to be, not in the slightest.
Phil is a person, just like everyone else.
Phil is a father, who just lost his only son.
Their eyes met then, and Tommy could see the pain and grief swirl around in Phil’s eyes as they stared into his own.
“He loved you, y’know,” Phil said after a couple of moments, the first words he’s uttered to Tommy since he showed up, as he stared back at the headstone. “We would write letters back and forth. From the moment he left home, until about three months ago. He talked very highly of you.”

There are sometimes, in rare moments of clarity, that has Tommy wondering if there's more to life than this, wonders if he would have deserved to have the childhood he used to see in the movies with the happy smiling families, with their perfect houses and perfect lives, but right now, sitting in the back of techno's beat-up truck bed; the streets light just barely illuminating the small space and penetrating the blanket, he wouldn't want to be anywhere else. He feels..content, content with how shit his life is and how shit it might go down the line, but there's no uncomfortable feeling anymore. There's no feeling of oncoming doom if he doesn't leave, there's nothing. Nothing but the cool midnight air circling his lungs and leaving his head fuzzy, nothing but the feeling of his heart beating. Deep down, he knows that there should be some unease if not about the drive but from the fight not even an hour ago, but he pushes those deep down with the unpleasant feelings, he doesn't want to feel with those right now.
