According to the team, Andrew is currently losing a custody battle for Neil against a sport invented by the mafia.
It’s a running joke in the locker room: Neil cares about Exy, and then, distant second, he cares about breathing. Andrew is somewhere on the list, probably below the new backliner spread Kevin found.
Andrew doesn't bother correcting them. He knows the difference between a distraction and a destination. He knows Neil runs until his lungs burn to keep the ghosts quiet, but he also knows exactly whose bed Neil crawls into when the adrenaline fades.
(Or: 5 times the team thought Neil loved the sport more than the goalkeeper, and one time Neil made the hierarchy terrifyingly clear.)

Summary
Neil turned to look out the window, letting the smoke burn through his lungs longer than he should’ve. It hurt; it made him feel real again. He let it out slowly, afraid time might slip away with the exhale, and he’d become this smoke dissipating into the wind once more.
If it were a year ago, he would write this off as his memory being odd. It always had been. Conversations he was present for slipped away, and more than just possessions got lost between the cities they stayed in. If this were a year ago, he’d write the missing hours away because he’d been jumbled and upset, and his mind didn’t always hit the record button for the bad stuff. But he wasn’t just surviving for himself anymore.

Summary
Andrew met Neil in a park when they were five, hiding in a tunnel in the playground set and immediately the two became inseparable; causing chaos for the adults around them, growing closer and closer as the years trickle by even through trauma and abuse from caregivers and unstable mothers all until one day Neil's unstable mother snatches Neil away for eight years just as everything in Andrew's life shifts- from having a new adoptive mom, to finding his brother and doing everything he can to protect him, to gaining a family that he wants to share with Neil. And after eight years, after thinking that his best friend and only love was dead, Neil comes back into his life easily fitting himself by Andrew's side once again, leaving the two of them to navigate their new developing relationship together alongside their traumas and complex family relationships
