Chapter Text
<“representatives of Gaul?”>
Isagi repeated, thinking critically and carefully… he swore he heard the name ‘Gaul’ somewhere but he just couldn’t put his finger on it…
Sensing Isagi’s confusion, Missy broke free from Kiyoko and Patrick’s combined efforts to keep her down, puffing out her chest and taking in a deep breath as she adjusted. She coughed, catching Isagi’s attention as she reverted into explanation mode.
<[{Missy Alice: “The Kingdom of Gaul, or rather ‘Gaul’ is one of the names we used to call the modern country called ‘France’.”}]>
Missy explained, reminding Isagi just how far back they were in time and how he’s going to have to adjust heavily. Thankfully, the world wasn’t too behind on technology due to Magic and the world-wide-system.
Isagi nodded seriously, taking Missy’s words into consideration.
<“I learned that like… a week ago before I came here.”>
{“… Me too…”}
Kiyoko who had previously been silent finally spoke… not literally spoke but sent a literal voice message through telepathy.
When Kiyoko followed up with that information, Isagi slowly turned to her with serious speculation and conclusion jumping. His brow slightly arched as he took in the wide range of possibilities.
Meanwhile, from the main stadium like space where the representatives of Gaul were lined up, some stood a tad confused. In the seeming silent room, they heard echos of what seemed like idle chatter when no one was actually talking.
”Woah! Is this place haunted or something?” Charles whispered over to the nearest person to him who just so happened to be Hugo. Charles had deliberately hushed his tone, acting all careful as if he were in some sort of detective movie. Like he was holding up a note with the words ‘Ghosts are listening’.
Hugo who had also heard it remained indifferent, passing it off as him hallucinating but was proven wrong when Charles had mentioned it.
He observed the crowd, eyes scanning the room and taking in a few striking figures before finally landing on a certain bluenette and a redhead. The only odd thing about them was that they had a cat and a pug floating by them… but also the fact that they were not paying attention to them.
And that was suspicious enough to begin with. Though Hugo couldn’t tell if they were blind or just didn’t care.
Oblivious to the staring, Isagi and Kiyoko had continued on with their conversation.
<“… perchance are you from Ichinan…?”>
Isagi finally asked the question that had been itching him. He watched intensely as Kiyoko’s face seemed to light up, eyes widening and finally showing some sort of emotion.
Unfortunately, the rest of the eavesdroppers in the room could only listen and wonder what in the world the two were talking about.
Chigiri bit the nail of his thumb, not quite liking how he was getting more confused by the second and how the dots seemed to be drifting apart rather than connecting. He physically needed the answer as he didn’t like being kept in the dark but the universe seemed to enjoy seeing him frustrated.
He knew that the answers wouldn’t be spoon fed to him but it annoyed him anyway.
So for now, he’ll just have to wait and see.
Across the room and in the middle column, Niko was on the very edge of his seat, watching the figure of his dreams and the infamously ‘evil’ villainess interact.
he was itching to get Isagi’s attention back but at the same time he didn’t have the heart to interrupt his favorite’s conversation.
”My… favorite… yes…” Niko blushed ferociously at the thought, not believing he had the gall to actually call Isagi that. But truthfully, the moon maiden herself had been his favorite in every tale told about her. So it came naturally.
A certain shark was more shocked by how Shantel had reacted so quickly and dramatically, tugging at Hiori’s sleeve with his jaw dropped.
”that witch can react like that??!!” He whispered, the shock in his voice still apparent as he looked over at Hiori, only to see the other just as taken aback as him.
Of course it was shocking, because Shantel had always been portrayed to them as arrogant and cruel. So to see such a ‘witch’ that was so cold hearted react so dramatically and without hesitation was jarring.
Especially because Shantel was known for her deviously good poker face, always managing to keep calm and quiet at critical moments.
Hiori quickly closed his mouth, pursing it instead as he tried to digest the information laid out in front of him. Especially that of Isagi and that mysterious cat called ‘Missy’ talking about The Kingdom of Gaul like it was a relic of the past.
the sudden change in demeanor of Shantel and the immediate change in their tension was enough to cause even the watchers of the most fast-paced-romances to be confused.
Who knew someone like Shantel or rather, ‘Mitsuha’ to have such emotion.
Hugo who had been more observant in the matter instantly connected the dots. Charles seemed confused though.
”… what in the world are they talking about?” Charles spoke with that same deliberately hushed tone, squinting his eyes and leaning even closer to Hugo.
And this time, Hugo had the patience to make an effort to keep quiet. Because judging by the reaction of many of the other individuals he had noticed, this was some kind of hushed topic that only some knew or something.
”they’re most likely talking about a high school. Confusing without the context, but they seem to be old classmates.” Hugo delivered his analogy, still needing more context on the matter but just telling Charles what he guessed of the matter.
{“I AM!!! SO YOU ARE ACTUALLY THE ISAGI FROM OUR SCHOOL????”}
The booming voice of a very excited Shantel or rather Mitsuha echoed in the room. The walls being made to be able to reflect sound really well and really loudly, it was practically a small sonic boom.
Most of those who heard it were more occupied with wincing and covering their ears rather than registering how Mitsuha reacted.
at the mentioned of ‘our school’ Isagi perked up as well. Immediately knowing just who in the world this mysterious ‘Mitsuha Kiyoko’ was. And he was absolutely delighted.
<“YOU’RE THAT MITSUHA??? THE TOP OF OUR SCHOOL IN ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE ARTS AND A SIDE OF HISTORY???”>
He mimicked Kiyoko’s tone and excitement, absolutely freaking out and vibrating with excitement from meeting someone he had longed to be acquainted with back in Ichinan. Seriously, what luck!
Kiyoko quickly became flustered when Isagi mimicked her excitement and shoved all her achievements in her face.
the embarrassment was overwhelming and it made her stammer to shut it down.
{“Hey! I’m not the best at History and I go by Kiyoko… NOT TO MENTION YOU’RE NOT ANY BETTER YOU NO.1 IN MATHEMATICS AND PSYCHOLOGY! With a side of science and PE.”}
Kiyoko aimed to make Isagi just as embarrassed as she was. And to her satisfaction, Isagi’s face immediately heated up and practically glowed bright red. She practically held up her index finger, mimicking a rather popular meme that had been circulating before she got here.
As everyone recovered from the sudden ear bursting sound, they finally caught up to what was going on. And just how enthusiastic the two rumored and voted ‘cold-hearted’ people could be when they meet.
”first in whatever they just said? Impossible…” Most of the people who had met the character Azure thought collectively.
Meanwhile Charles had his hands over his ears, being dramatic as always as he blurted out some random words in French that were overall inaudible and incomprehensible.
Hugo had merely scrunched up his face before returning to his usual neutrality, listening closely as he considered whether the two of them would serve to be useful to him. While silently acknowledging their supposed smarts.
though he wondered what was in those censored bits because the sentence had sounded a little something like:
{“Hey! I’m not the best at History and I go by ######… NOT TO MENTION YOU’RE NOT ANY BETTER YOU NO.1 IN MATHEMATICS AND PSYCHOLOGY! With a side of science and PE.”}
and he was curious to know what exactly the system was hiding from them.
The bluenette waved his hand dismissively, the gesture small but not unnoticed by everyone else that paid close attention.
<“hey… I’m not that great…”>
Isagi tried to keep a poker face on but was failing miserably, so as a last resort he just shoved his face into his hands and tried his best not to look up.
on the other hand, Kiyoko let out a huff. Not quite liking how Isagi was denying it.
{“Like hell you out of everyone isn’t smart. You goody-two-shoes genius.”}
Kiyoko rolled her eyes, still huffing and puffing even as Isagi protested.
<“For YOUR information, I’m more of a fast learner than a genius, thank you.”
Isagi retorted, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes, mirroring Kiyoko’s exact attitude and sass. It was accurate to the point it was pissing Kiyoko off slightly.
<[{Sir Patrick III: “Enough of this reunion and get back to acting! And why are all the MLs staring at us?”}]>
The pug interrupted the reunion, having sensed that they were getting out of character and showing too much emotion.
Missy who had thought Patrick had gotten the system as well message froze, swallowing hard as she realized that she was alone on this and soon every ‘host’ there is in this story will be revealed with every interaction. And she was helpless. With absolutely no authority to interfere or tell anyone.
”IT TALKS?!?!” Charles whisper-yelled. The sort of energy you might put in a yell but compressed painfully into a whisper. He gasped loudly in something like horror and pure unadulterated joy, not believing what he was seeing.
Hugo froze, glancing at the two floating creatures. “Divine animals? They don’t look like it though… familiars?” He questioned, not remembering where it stated that familiars talked but also doubting that the two were divine animals.
Kiyoko and Isagi immediately froze when the pug interrupted, hands dropping back elsewhere as their heads whipped towards the front. Only to realize that most of the relevant figures in the story were staring at them.
<“quick! Get back into character!”>
Isagi quickly said, schooling his face back into bored perfection as Kiyoko followed shortly after. Very elegantly crossing her legs and propping her chin up with her hand, a cold sort of grace only her character could pull off.
As the two snapped back into character, all the others could finally see just how efficient and quick they were at their acting.
“No way…” Hiori muttered under his breath, bewildered that he had been played all along. He thought he knew everything about the two, had brushed them off as two annoyingly arrogant people… just to not only be proven wrong but shown that he should pay more attention.
Hugo tensed, eyes widening as he took in their performance. Especially becoming flabbergasted when he observed and observed but could not differentiate their acting from their reality.
after everything had settled and the two were back to acting, Kiyoko finally couldn’t help but add something more,
{“quick, act like a sigma, nonchalant, dominant CEO.”}
<“BSD MENTIONED???”>
{“THAT WAS NOT THE REFERENCE YOU DUMBASS!”}
and so the very long and very boring introduction had taken place with the professor talking more than the people who were actually introducing their selves.
To the amusement and expectation of both Kiyoko and Isagi… the magic theory professor looked like an identical twin of Snape from HP and they were too busy internally giggling and laughing to hear any of the introduction.
<“do you think he walks aggressively like in the show cuh?”>
{“I don’t fucking know twin but this is cracking me up… I’m crine-“}
The vulgarity of their words increased with the time they spent chit chatting together rather than listening.
and many learned that people from the ‘other world’ have quite the wide and colorful vocabulary!
On the outside though, the two kept up their masks perfectly. Either doodling in their notes or checking out their nails. Never truly looking up or just glancing up slightly to expertly and sneakily assess the situation.
”is this really how high-ranking nobles talk to each other?” Kurona whispered to Hiori, surprised at how they were so openly vulgar to each other.
Hiori deadpanned. “I have absolutely no idea.” He replied blankly, still reeling from the shock and devastation that he had been wrong all along and that his observation skills were worse than he thought.
<“im wayy too fking’ lazy to read the actual plot- MISSY! Tell me their plot lines.”>
Isagi called out to Missy, practically ordering the car to tell him about their plot lines which he had so graciously declined to read beforehand because they were ‘too long’. And he just simply didn’t care enough to carry out his evil villain duties, preferring to procrastinate.
Kiyoko leaned in a centimeter, curious to hear the information regarding the newly introduced characters as well because she as well had been too busy to read.
<[{Missy Alice: “Ugh fine.”}]>
And so with that she opened a system window.

The two system windows came up easily, with Chigiri getting flashbacks from when his own information was revealed so easily as well. The redhead felt a chill run up his spine, remembering exactly how he had been laid bare as well.
Meanwhile Isagi and Kiyoko took in the information well. But Isagi immediately caught the ‘illegal’ in Charles’s part and then registered the age.
<“what in the pedofile obsession does this goddamn game have???”>
Isagi groaned loudly internally, practically throwing his head up and quitting in life. This was literally the second time and if once wasn’t enough twice seemed to be worse.
Kiyoko who had yet to encounter the trope nearly yelled ‘WHAT???’ Out loud before quickly restraining herself at the last second.
{“you’re telling me that there’s such things in here!? NOOOO- SEDATE ME GET ME OUT!!!”}
she was practically crying out for help, definitely not wanting to be part of whatever bs that might happen between the female lead and that particular male lead.
<“fifteen… so young too…”>
Isagi pinched the bridge of his nose, not believing the audacity of the author of the novel itself to do something so cruel to someone so young.
Charles on the other hand looked over at the two groaning and sighing about him, pointing at himself with that dumb ‘I don't understand’ smile as he glanced between the two and Hugo who seemed really uneasy.
at the end Isagi merely banished the system windows from existence before dragging a hand down his face in disappointment.
But then he realized that some people were missing.
<“yo what about those people and the bangs guy beside me.”> Isagi acknowledged, looking over at the two at front and the one beside him… the very creepy bangs guy…
Missy glanced at the two before shaking her head, crossing her tiny arms before she turned back to the two.
<[{Missy Alice: “They’re rather insignificant in the story at the moment and I know for a fact you wouldn’t waste your time reading ahead of time. Just regard them as sharkie for the braided one, sadist for cyan and stalker for you know who.”}]>
She stated bluntly, unwilling to sugarcoat the words as she assigned really accurate but really insulting nicknames. With one of the three being really unexpected.
A collective “Pft” went throughout except the ones who were so rudely named.
except Hugo. He was too busy trying to figure out what that special system window containing all that mystery information meant and what the cat creature thing meant by ‘story’. Not to mention the curiosity he felt when he thought deeper on the system as a whole and how mysterious it was.
Chigiri was practically doubled over, trying his very best to hold back his laughter. The names were so cruel he almost felt bad for the ones targeted. But there were still so many questions that went unanswered.
Charles nudged at Hugo, hand to his mouth as he wheezed slightly. “Did you hear that??? Sadist!” He said through the laughter, still tugging at Hugo’s sleeve.
<[{Sir Patrick III: “Hey that was really rude… and shouldn’t you read ahead of-”}]>
<[{Missy Alice: “SHUSH PATRICK! Be the lazy pug you are and SHHHHH!”}]>
While the two systems argued, Isagi and Kiyoko were still trying to figure out who was who. But then their attention shifted immediately when the professor cleared his throat.
Isagi narrowed his eyes, finally taking the initiative to assess the representatives.
He realized quickly that they were all forming some sort of protective circle around a single, rather bratty looking girl.
<“who’s that girl?”>
The question came naturally, but that made both Charles and Hugo freeze before tensing up immediately. The orders given to them repeating in their head as the two realized just who exactly Isagi was looking at.
Hugo had looked up at Isagi, observing the furrow of the raven’s brow and how intensely he was staring at her, like he was trying to crack a code. To painstakingly unravel them one by one.
{“ah. I’ve read this part. Saintess Agatha Doloris Vitae. She’s some sort of future Saintess from the tribal people near Gaul. She hears spirits apparently and is destined to grow to be able to talk and sort of use them.”}
Kiyoko told of what he knew, her eyes also settling on the girl. Her eyes narrowed, calculating and assessing like how a predator might look at prey. Her villainess route was deeply associated with her after all.
Charles felt the hairs at the back of his neck stand, having a very bad feeling about this.
the bluenette narrowed his eyes further, realizing how similar that sounded to his recently acquired skills… but he kept quiet, revealing his skills regardless of the the situation was a rookie mistake.
{“… also the one I’m supposed to kidnap, torture and force to heal me. Because unfortunately I’m de-buffed with some sort of mental curse that causes me pain. I was driven mad by then apparently and was not thinking.”}
She finished with something like misery in her voice as she realized just how dark her path would become here on out. That maybe she might not be able to take back what she does here even when she knew that nothing was real… for the sake of herself she had first said but now everything seemed far more complicated.
Kiyoko pursed her lips, feeling the curse flare up and whisper malicious words in her mind. Her hands trembled, squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to shut them out by calming herself down.
but only now did she realize the burden on her shoulders and what the story expected from her. Especially the part where she had to be so cruel while going insane at the same time. She’d have to endure all the pain. How miserable the fate of her character was.
A cold knot of dread appeared in Hugo, his heart dropping as he heard how he would apparently fail to protect the Saintess and how she would end up in the hands of Shantel.
Hugo clenched his fists, ready to end this before it started but quickly restrained himself when he realized he had no proof and that the consequences of killing a daughter of a duke would be dire enough to start a war.
Charles felt his heart dropping into the pits of his stomach, his mouth dry and his hands clammy as he took in what he was against.
so that was the fate of their beloved Saintess and the union of their empire and the tribal people.
The raven who was beside Kiyoko quickly noticed her state, reaching out a hand to tug at the hem of Kiyoko’s uniform.
When Isagi got no response he made an educated guess. With how sluggish and unresponsive Kiyoko had gotten to his Patrick was worrying over his host, hovering over her constantly but lacking the amount of panic that would come if this were a once in a lifetime thing.
so he guessed that it was the ‘curse’.
<“look. I know that the path ahead is not going to be pretty. But if it helps I can try something.”>
Isagi spoke calmly, hoping his voice would cut through the haze Kiyoko was in. He took a deep breath, concentrating as he grabbed Kiyoko’s hand underneath the table.
<“Missy, can I convert some of my unused points or anything else into spirit points?”>
he asked, desperate to help his new friend in some sort of way. He wasn’t sure if he could do something of that sort but he sure will try.
The word ‘spirits’ seemed to echo. The association between the word and the Saintess as well as what it meant with the context so kindly given by Kiyoko. But the question was… what did Isagi mean by that?
That caught both Hugo and Charles attention. The thought of someone like Isagi who had no sort of connection with anything tribal or divine having abilities like the Saintess seemed absurd. Especially when using spirits to heal and such is rare in itself and is hard to master.
Missy tried to protest but when Isagi gave her a warning glare she shut up, requesting the system to convert the points to which it agreed.
she clicked a few things here and there with her claws, not truly bothering to look over them.
<[{Missy Alice: “There, one soul coming right up!”}]>
She announced as she pressed the final big red button. To which some of the unused points were used to create a singular soul. It would be enough to suppress Kiyoko’s curse for now.
Isagi gave a grateful nod, thankful that the system was so generous. He closed his eyes, focusing on using the skill.
The activation of ‘soul cleanser’ or ‘spiritual healer’ comes with a cost of hearing the whispers of spirits whether it be malicious or just desperate talk. The whispers began, overlapping until it blurred into a dizzying mixture of screams and laughter.
A prickly sensation appeared all over his body, every sense opening and becoming much more sensitive than before. He felt like he was floating, but falling at the same time as that knot of fear appeared in his gut.
and with that fear the whispers intensified, but quickly he suppressed them and instead used them to fasten the pace of the process.
From an outsider’s view no one could really tell if anything was happening. It just looked like Isagi was bored and taking a short nap sitting up while holding hands…
but then Shantel who was beside him started waking up, eyes becoming clearer and more aware as she looked around. She seemed half possessed, half awake, head lolling slightly before she caught it every time.
furthermore, the Saintess(Agatha) who had been standing proudly still in the center of Hugo and Charles’s group perked up, heading whipping towards Isagi like one of her senses had been awakened.
”no way…” she had whispered, eyes wide with something like disbelief and admiration.
and that just confirmed Hugo’s suspicion. His interest in the bluenette rocketing immediately as he realized the potential Isagi had.
They were witnessing a once in a lifetime event!
Charles blinked, once in confusion before he let out a dramatic, VERY loud gasp.
But before anyone else could react even more drastically, Agatha herself had shoved herself between the gap of Charles and another, sprinting up and stairs and very obviously towards Isagi.
Being her guards, the others were forced to follow with gritted teeth at their Saintess’s reckless behavior.
”your holiness, wait!” Hugo had shouted before taking off after her, the same variation of the shout came from the others as they followed behind Hugo. They’ve dealt with Agatha’s brattiness before but this was the first time she actually ran away from them!
Agatha made it beside Isagi in an impressively short amount of time, hand grabbing onto Isagi’s free one as she used the opportunity and the gathered spirits to try and awaken as well.
she held Isagi’s hand between her palms, focusing intensely as she tried to tap into Isagi’s flowing stream spirits.
behind her, most of her guards had arrived behind her, ready to attack at any moment.
Unfortunately for Agatha, she had noticed too late and Isagi was almost completely done with the given soul, with Kiyoko becoming fully aware and awake.
So to her stubborn attempts, Agatha failed to awaken and was left with Isagi and Kiyoko staring up at her in clear confusion.
Isagi squinted, trying to remember when she had arrived and had the gall to grab his hand.
His blue eyes met Agatha’s orange ones, very blankly staring at each other. The bluenette registered the recognition behind Agatha’s eyes and realized that the Saintess knew what he was and what he had been doing.
it takes one to know one after all.
in his panic, Isagi had yanked his hand back rather harshly which was strangely in character of him.
Kiyoko had also very sneakily slid her hand out of Isagi’s grip as to not start weird rumors.
”… may I help you?” Isagi said through gritted teeth, only for Agatha to not respond and just address him with an annoyed huff.
and goodness did that set Isagi’s temper off but he contained it quickly, not wanting to lash out too soon and cause himself to be suspended or something.
but that fear of being exposed stayed in him, especially the thought of going against the system and being punished for it.
as the Saintess went by him and looked as though she was looking for her seat. The rest of her very annoyed and fed up group of knights and mages followed behind. Finally giving Isagi and Kiyoko some room to breathe.
but then Hugo passed by. And Kiyoko finally registered the drool worthy trope the system had put the man under. Also his height. And his size. And goddamn his-
{“HOLY THIGHS?!?!?!?!??!?”}
<“WHERE?!?!?!?!”>
After that really fun period ended where Shantel and Isagi mostly chatted up a storm while the professor taught them something along the lines of ‘basics even idiots should know’ or something. They didn’t pay attention but they did promise to meet each other tonight to revise and actually study so they can dictate the exam results a little.
thankfully he didn’t have to interact with anyone in particular because Missy had very generously told him that the actual scene in the game is happening elsewhere and that he can ignore the shit out of everyone.
to which he very graciously did.
he had practically avoided every ML like the plague and had just barely made it out alive. But he did notice something…
After the whole ordeal about thighs he noticed how the little dude and Hugo had froze, just to brush it off and continue walking but Isagi surely didn’t miss how red Hugo’s ears were while Charles seemed to be shaking with barely contained laughter.
though he soon brushed it off as Hugo nearly tripping and being embarrassed about it while Charles saw it and was holding back from laughing his very un-Royal arse off.
“Hm… OH YEAH!”
Isagi suddenly remembered that he still had that artifact blind box to unbox.
he went to a secluded little corner and opened his portal to his inventory, digging through it before pulling out the silver box with golden engravings etched into it in a design Isagi could only describe as… ‘very system like’.
<[{Missy Alice: “Are you sure you wanna open that now?”}]>
She questioned, side-eyeing Isagi as she smelled trouble literally pouring out of that god forsaken box.
Isagi shrugged, pressing open anyway as he waited for something to appear.
the box flew out of Isagi’s hand, bouncing and tumbling around in the air before wobbling from side to side in a lucky box style draw. Its shaking increased before the top popped open and three shining objects appeared.
the style of which the box opened oddly reminded Isagi of a jack-in-the-box.
He tilted his head, his hand still extended as the three small objects descended, landing squarely in the middle of his palm.
”what are these?” He murmured in confusion, letting the shine and shimmer die out before he identified the three. From the shape, he can at least tell that it was a gemstone of some sort.
Once the shimmer was gone, he was met with one ginormous pear shaped moonstone and two smaller but brilliant dual labradorite gems. The colors oddly matched each other and Isagi had a feeling that this connected to something much deeper.
[Reward Acquired!

The system screen appeared out of the blue, nearly scaring Isagi out of his skin. He reviewed the words. And reread them. Then reread them again. And again. Only for it to make less sense each time.
he blinked rapidly, trying to process the lack of information the system gave him.
before he could complain or Missy could request a review of whatever this ‘error’ was, another system window popped up.
[New Quest!:

It read sincerely, and Isagi already knew that his Moon Deity was probably having a giggle fit over his distress.
”someone just get me out of here.”
