Keyseeker's Choices For Best Completed Miraculous Fics Of 2023
I read a crapton of Miraculous fics, so I decided to make some reclists for the best completed Miraculous fics over on my tumblr, flightfoot.tumblr.com. But I wanted these recs to stick around so that people can see them way into the future. There are some real underappreciated gems here!
Note: the entirety of the collection is in the bookmarks, while only the fics that authors allowed into the collection are in the regular collection itself. I doubled-up like that since the two categories do different things, with bookmarks allowing me to input ANY fic and to give my review/commentary on the fic or series (every bookmark has commentary for the fic), while having the fic in the collection itself lets this collection show up on that fic's page, and also enables sorting options you don't get with bookmarks, such as the ability to sort by word count or kudos.

I love Colt’s characterization here, how we see his mindset, his beliefs, and even what made him the way he is. We have a limited amount of knowledge about him in canon, only having the play Felix and Kagami put on to go off of, but myladynoire made good use of it! I’m glad Felix got some closure here as well.

It’s left ambiguous exactly what’s happening, but… instead of the characters who’re canonically sentis being controlled, it looks like another method’s been used to keep them under their parents thumb. Basically, that what we thought were the kids amoks’ were actually used to brainwash more generally. Which leads to some complicated ethical questions for Adrien, since he now holds the rings. Especially since he can now use the rings on others the way they were used on him.

This was a truly gorgeous story. It’s the classic “Marinette gives up the Miracle Box and loses her memories” storyline, exploring her life two years later. Even though she’s had time to heal and recover, she still feels like she’s missing something, something big. At least Adrien’s stopping by regularly to tell her stories about Ladybug and Chat Noir, even if she doesn’t understand why they resonate with her so well.

Poor Adrien here, he makes a long-time friend (who everyone thinks is an imaginary friend), and has several great years interacting with her as his parents grow more concerned with him not growing out of it... and then Emilie dies, Gabriel orders the window destroyed, Adrien’s put on medication to suppress his “hallucinations” (which also makes him forget Marinette) and he’s just kind of left like that for the next several years, until he’s an adult.
Luckily, while Adrien forgot Marinette, Marinette never forgot him, and he’s not too difficult to track down...
