Summary
The Winter Soldier was a wanted Criminal. No one seemed to know who he was. Every time the Avengers went out to find him, they came back empty-handed. At one point the criminal started to leave messages for the Avengers.
Still, they weren't any closer than they had been before, and were beginning to think it was little more than a wild goose chase.
That was until Tony Stark found himself faced with more of his past than he liked.

“You’re an asshole J,” Tony mutters back as he reaches up to rub at his temple. He either has a headache coming on or a blood clot. At this point he’s honestly not sure which he’d prefer.
"I did learn from the best, Sir,” JARVIS tells him sunnily.

Ale Pepper zachowuje się, jakby go nie słyszała, kiedy siada przy łóżku i bierze jego dłoń w swoje.
- Nie powinnam ci na to pozwolić – mówi. - Mogłeś zginąć. Myślałam, że znienawidzisz mnie, jeśli będę błagać byś tego nie robił, ale wolę, żebyś mnie nienawidził, niż żebyś był martwy. Proszę, obudź się.
Tony jest zdezorientowany, bo przecież nie śpi. Chce objąć Pepper, pocieszyć…
… ale jego ręka wpada w jej policzek i przechodzi przez niego, nie napotykając oporu.
Tony nie może jej dotknąć. Podrywa się, czując dziwne szarpnięcie, kiedy jego głowa unosi się z poduszki, wyciąga przed siebie ręce – w porządku, może nimi ruszać, więc przecież…
Ale Pepper wciąż siedzi bez ruchu. Wciąż trzyma jego dłoń w swojej.
Tylko że on nie czuje tego dotyku, a ręka, spoczywająca bezwładnie w jej dłoni, wydaje się należeć do kogoś innego. Tony'ego ogarnia fala paniki, kiedy stoi obok i patrzy z góry na swoje nieruchome ciało.
