Summary
In the wake of the explosion, the ship is still and silent as death.
No words can encapsulate what they just experienced in the last few hours on that damned island, the last half hour of the hell-for-leather, nonstop race for the shore. The world is still too fragile right now for those, even if they could find any.
Or: the islanders return from Purgatory and begin to recover. Philza finds out what comes next.

Summary
Of course every resident was aware that to leave the city alone was a death sentence. Almost no one who had left before was ever seen again, let alone returned to tell the tale of what actually existed beyond the walls. But unless one was part of the regular trade caravans, the residents were more than content to keep their focus inward.
Wilbur had never expected to experience Purgatory first hand.
Or: Wilbur is cast out into the wastelands of Purgatory. He only has one hope for survival: the rumored and possibly feral inhabitants of that apocalyptic wasteland.
