"Sleep deprivation was nothing new for Aloy. Machines, after all, never slept. As it turned out, neither did parents of newborns - or at least that was how it was beginning to feel. It had been only four days since she had given birth to their baby girl, and she could probably count on her hands the number of hours of sleep she had gotten since. It wasn't even Korrah's fault, not really. Aloy just couldn't seem to relax enough to truly rest, snapping awake at every small movement, sleepy snuffle, or hungry whine the baby made before it could even turn fully into a cry.
That was why she was annoyed, but not surprised, to find herself jolting awake in bed for what must have been the fourth time already that night."

In that short span of time, a Blight has begun to spread with the help of strange storms that seem to carry it. It kills everything and the machines are still changing despite HADES being gone, becoming more dangerous. In pursuit of the backup, Aloy and Neoma decide to travel to the Forbidden West, where they both learn to trust other people and how to obtain what they need in order to save the world from itself.
It's not all bad on their travels, as Aloy and Neoma learn what it is to be partners together. As they travel to the Forbidden West, things are discovered, and they are tested to the extreme on both their relationship and their allies.
