The mission was simple. The Vessel of Sleep was to either be claimed by Alkaline Agency, or executed. And after countless failed attempts at cooperation, all resulting in the gruesome deaths of previous agents, peace was no longer an option.
Sixteen teams, all lost to the whim of some monster. Four gulped, hoping that, against all odds, the death toll would not raise any higher.

Summary
At first, it was peaceful. The Vessel felt like he was floating, the outside world distant and quiet, his mind calm and empty.
He could not smell or see or hear where he was, reduced to nothing but sensation and the cloying, metallic taste in his mouth.
He absently remembered the emotions he’d felt before being where he was - fear, pain, anger - but, when he tried to put faces or names to anything specific, he struggled to do so. Eventually, he'd give up, as doing so only made him tired, his mind not capable of absorbing the complexities of a life beyond where he was. It didn’t feel like it mattered very much, anyways.
He curled in on himself, like an unborn fetus, floating in velvety abyss, and his memories were a distant hum in the back of his mind.
This was His promise. To become more than he once was. Nothing could hurt him here. Not anymore.
...
Did... did he always have six limbs? No, that can't be right....
Or Vessel is transformed into something new, and his consorts are here to help him acclimate.

Summary
Vessel hadn’t responded to II directly, instead, pointing a finger at IV. “Fourth.”
IV froze, afraid he wasn’t hearing him correctly, only for III to nudge his shoulder. IV spoke up, a part of him worried that he’d angered Sleep - and Vessel by proxy - in some way. “Y-yes?”
Vessel calmly walked over until they were almost toe-to-toe, and IV had to resist taking a few steps back. As much as he worshipped and idolized Vessel as Sleep’s chosen, being this close was intense, like staring into the sun. A charcoal gray hand reached forward and caressed IV’s chin from under the golden tulle of his mask, before he planted his palm on the top of IV’s head. IV silently basked in the sudden attention, unable to pull his eyes away.
Vessel smiled, his white teeth showing. “Tonight, go to altar. We will hold a ritual. You will be mine.”

Summary
Vessel’s relationship with Sleep is far from healthy. It’s toxic and burns like vodka in the throat of the drinker. The effects of the drink on the body make the pain seemingly worth it. The more they worked with Sleep, the less obvious that pain was. No physical pain could compare to the constant ringing in their head. The non-stop demands weighed on them, making them almost numb to that worldly pain.
