Summary
The consequences of immortality hadn't hit Monica until a month after Westview - she'd ran to her father and cried and cried and cried. Frank had cried with her, quietly prayed over with a delicate, cracking voice when she'd almost fallen asleep in his arms, too exhausted and scared to leave. He'd been too ill to be in her childhood, and he was too alive to stay in her immortality. Firefighters fought flames, but now she was the flames and she was the fire and she didn't know if she was burning or dying.
But Frank isn't with her in the spaceship settled in the heart of the void. She's not sure she's ever seen Frank and Carol in the same room. He's left to put out the fires that her aunt started in her life, but he can't do anything about the burns.

With a twist, their fingers are interlocked and joined in every way possible.By the time the crescent moon has fully risen, Maria's crawled underneath the blanket with Carol; they're lying on the back, staring up at the screaming cosmos with wonder in their eyes and turmoil in their hearts. But it takes only one look at Carol for Maria to know there's absolutely no doubt between either of them."

Frank nods his head at her, seemingly disinterested. Carol almost sneers at his nonchalant attitude, but stops herself when Maria unleashes her sunny smile, and Carol’s knees tremble a little.
Later, in the bathroom stall, as she’s slouching with her knees drawn up against her chest, letting the quiet, hot tears leak down her face, the lump in her throat rises as bile into her mouth. She spits it into the toilet, and blinks once, twice, to glimpse 3 sunny yellow petals in the clear water.
