Hop wasn’t sure how many times he’d seen him cry, but however many, it could be counted on one hand. Hop learnt why quickly. If he didn’t brush off his pain, he was swiftly infantilized and isolated by his mum and grandparents. He never wanted to feel like that again. So he swore he wouldn’t. He hadn’t cried in front of anyone since he was a child. Only his Pokemon would know if he was feeling miserable. And he wanted it to stay that way.

On the final day of the Championship (Victor versus Leon), Chairman Rose releases Eternatus, and restarts The Darkest Day. Leon, Hop, Gloria, and Victor take it upon themselves to save Galar. However, after major difficulty, Leon decides to sacrifice himself in order to save the others.
After Eternatus is subdued by Zacian and Zamazenta, it is sealed in the Hammerlocke Power Plant, and Hop’s family hosts a funeral for Leon. Hop is sent into a depression, and Victor is crowned Champion by default.

Two years have passed. Hop has given up on battling altogether. He can’t handle it when every part of the process reminds him of Leon. He very well believes this is the end of the line for him.
Until, Gloria approaches him with a proposition that promises the Champion title he deserves…and a journey to mend the void in his chest.
