Distantly, as if through bulletproof glass, she hears the sound of rushing water. She’s standing in front of the shower, watching his brow etched in concentration, watching as he sticks his hand into the water and almost comes out cursing. He makes a few adjustments before he looks back at her, brows furrowed.
“Okay, Sapulpa,” he murmurs. He taps her shirt gently. “Up you go.”
She registers distantly that he’s helping her undress as she pulls her sweater over her head. There are bruises from her fall all over her right side, her skin turning a purplish color.
His jaw ticks, but he says nothing, his eyes glancing from the bruises quickly away. He meets her eyes. “There you go. Think you can manage the rest?”
She nods, too tired to protest and too far gone to blush.
If he had asked her any other day…
“Good. Guess I’ll uh…” Tyler scratches behind his neck, turning around to walk out the door.
“Ty?”
It’s the first thing she’s said in five minutes.
He turns around. “Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
His eyes soften. “Anytime, Sapulpa.”
He turns around again, but this time, he doesn’t try to leave.

This is set in my head canon of the movie, which I created when I wrote my other fic in this fandom, "All at Once." Everything is canon however because we have limited backstory, I've filled in holes.

To this day, Kate has never worn open toed shoes. Life has taught her to be ready for everything. Her mothers heart attack, not so much, but something had to bring her home.

She'd been allowed to tag along on chases since she was eight, provided of course that she stuck to whichever vehicle was at the back of the convoy and followed every direction given to her to a T. Sometimes if she was lucky her mom would even pull her replacement Jeep J10 out of the barn and let her ride along with her.
Meg was fourteen the first time a tornado chased her back. It didn't matter how much she helped out in demolished communities or how many times she dealt with the cries for lost loved ones, nothing could have prepared her for losing her dad.
The studies weren't enough. The warnings weren't enough. Meg Harding wanted to figure out what made tornadoes tick and what it took to get them to stop.
And it all began with a joint college PhD project.

Jonas Miller is on a trip to Oklahoma City to discuss the idea of weather sensors being released inside a tornado to his corporate sponsors.
All Jonas’ research shows that former colleague Bill Harding has not yet put a patent on the idea, which Jonas sees as fair game.
On the way, he stops overnight at the Faygo Inn, a roadside motel with a restaurant. When Jonas goes to the restaurant, he encounters Bill’s wife, Jo, who tells Jonas they are now separated; the two catch up over dinner and drinks.
As a storm brews overnight, Jo finds herself scared, and goes to seek comfort from Jonas in his room for the night.
