Mulder shakes his head and crosses his arms at whatever Scully’s grinning about. He moves only his head and shoulders when he replies, professional, direct, and Scully drops her head back and John can hear the groan from way over where he’s standing.
Scully leans in even further in response and gesticulates while Mulder stares up at the sky, his eyes closing. Scully starts counting something off on her fingers and Mulder rolls his eyes, straightens his posture, and says something he is fully enunciating, given the movement of his lips. Scully, for her part, waggles her head and spreads her arms as she lobs a sardonic grin in Mulder’s direction-
Christ, John thinks. This'll take forever.

Summary
Saving the world comes at much too high a cost. Mulder and Scully go on the run to protect their unborn son and battle the human replicants who seem intent on world domination.
An AU take of starting in the latter part of season 8 episode Essence. Timeline wise it will eventually cover IWTB territory but with a replicant twist.
This stems from it annoys me how Scully gets relegated to basically being a ball for the men to pass around at the end of episode 8x20 and then all the symbolism nonsense (no woman is wearing nice white satin pyjamas by choice having just given birth I don't care if it makes her look like the virgin Mary). So this is my take on these episodes with a little bit more logic, a lot more MSR. The men still get to run around beating their chests but Scully has a voice and uses it.

In the year 1999, newcomer to Washington Special Agent Rose Winters is assigned to the X-Files office at the Bureau, much to the chagrin of the FBI agents already inhabiting it: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, John Doggett and Monica Reyes. However, the charming and tenacious young woman soon starts to grow on the "Spooky Squad" working the basement office.
OK. OK. "Rosie" as she comes to be known to her four fellow FBI agents, is a tad ... ODD, to put it very mildly. But, hey, eccentricity might as well be a prerequisite to being assigned to the X-Files office. Right?
But soon it becomes quite apparent that Rosie is hiding something. A deep, dark secret that will turn Mulder and Scully and Doggett and Reyes' lives, loves and whatever dreams they have for the future completely upside down. For this young woman, Rosie Winters, is actually their daughter from the future - from the Year 2030!

After the events in Mexico, John is back in the states. Finally. He's also somewhat intact and his wiped-out memories have since returned to him. But he has not made it home yet. He's just thankful to not be alone. Ever-loyal, Monica is looking after him until he can get back to his D.C. apartment. He feels peace about this because she has always been an unwavering constant from their first meeting. Monica completes him. She is also more than content to spend this time with him because she'd had far too many terrifying dreams during the search for her other half to want to spend this aftermath period away from him. Plus, Monica knows that her heart is at its most full whenever John is around. That is enough. However... Travel plans do not exactly go the way they wanted. But Monica's favorite part is definitely the date.
