It has to stop. She needs to let Hotch be, to exist in his own orbit without her London-timezone weakness texting through the witching hour about the specific, ruinous memory of his hands. It was the one thing she swore she wouldn't do, leave only to remain tethered by a ghost limb of a relationship. Yet here she is. And he allows it.
She'd kept Hotch in her hotel room sheets until well past noon, a lazy debate about the scruff on his jaw happened between them. She likes the rasp of it between her thighs. Leave it, she'd whispered into his neck, and he'd listened.
The rapid-fire tap of his thumbs on his phone screen is a language she knows too well.
"Who's it?" She asks anyway.
"Just telling Haley I'm on my way."
One eye squints against a sudden, hollow twist in her gut. "Beth with her?"
All Hotch gives her is a look, yes. An itchy, uncomfortable growl escapes her.
