Summary
Hawkins Fuller teaches French in a high school in Arkansas where Tim Laughlin is a twelfth-grade student. They're both, like, totally goth. It's the hardest thing to be in a town where everybody else is normal, or at least seems to be normal. To quote Jean-Paul Sartre: 'L'enfer, c'est les autres,' which loosely translates as 'Hell consists of your fellow men.'
This story is set in the 2020s, so Hawk and Skippy did a bit of time-traveling. It is in no way connected to the previous fic in this series, but it's cr*p all the same.

Summary
Washington, 1953. After falling out with Hawkins Fuller for the umpteenth time, Tim Laughlin heads to the Cozy Corner to get drunk, falls very ill and is rescued by Frankie Hines, who looks after him.
Meanwhile Frankie is battling his own grief. His lover Marcus left for Baltimore in order to make a career as a journalist for the black cause. It leaves Frankie heartbroken.
Things are not looking well for Hawk and Mary either. He has to apologize to his dying father for a thing he does not feel guilt or remorse over, and she has to break up with her live-in girlfriend in order to secure her own job and her reputation.
When life looks bleakest, salvation is found around the corner. The main characters of this story will eventually find it, because let's be honest, canon FT had a very tragic ending.

I think he was trying to stay connected to me somehow…only I ended up in Europe and Kenny was sent to the Pacific. He died on a beach trying to take Luzon…Tim, I want to come up with you. I want to hold you tonight.’
(FT, Episode I, 'You're Wonderful')This fic picks up where Part 1 ended, shortly after Hawk's return to Washington after a stay in New York in the summer of 1960. Skippy is preparing to move from Staten Island to D.C. to be closer to him, but before that is realized Hawk is called back to the Big Apple because of a rather sad event. This prompts Hawk to tell Skippy all about his romance with Kenny Willard, his first lover, and about the person who both amazed and inspired him.

Summary
This story is based on Tim's brief romance with Father Gallagher when he was still a student at a Jesuit university in New York, a few years before he met Hawk in Washington. I believe that this little tale of a lost first love broke down any boundary that might have stopped Hawk from starting a courtship with Tim.
A few lines from the series only, and yet I saw in them a story in its own right:
‘It was my second year at Fordham. I belonged to the YRC…Our faculty advisor was Father Gallagher from the Religion Department, not much older than I was…We both loved the Church, the liturgy, the rituals…One thing led to another, and…when it was over I asked Bob - that was his name - if he thought God would forgive us for what we’d done. He said that God would forgive us…but he could never forgive God for making him what he was.’
