(Follows the story of the War of the Ring).
(Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused, and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.

This was GORGEOUS. Beautifully written and well paced, heart-wrenching and heart-warming both, perfectly fitted against canon (and as a bonus, almost EXACTLY the same length; The Hobbit plus the full Lord of the Rings together are 576,459 words, and this is 577,879. That's only 1,420 more!). Which is not to say I don't enjoy an AU, there's a time and a place for most things. But the artistry and the craftsmanship of this are stunning.
It even has its own appendices, both scattered throughout in the notes and linked in the masterposts! In these appendices, the author CITES SOURCES and clearly delineates which things are from Tolkien and which are the author's own additions. There are translations and lore.
The known characters are very much in character, the added characters fit right into the world, and the Valar are appropriately intimidating (to everyone but Thorin and Bilbo, apparently).

Bilbo returned to the Shire to take care of his young nephew Frodo after Frodo's parents died. He left behind the one he loved and the family he cared for dearly, but a promise is a promise and a Baggins keeps their promises. Summary
Fíriel of Gondor made a fatal error: she refused the hand of Boromir, the Captain-General.
As punishment, the Steward Denethor has sold her to the North. She is to be the price of a new alliance with the Horse Lords. A bride for the Prince of Rohan to secure cavalry for the coming war.
But when Fíriel arrives at the wind-scoured hill of Edoras, she finds the Golden Hall rotting from within. The King is withered, the prince is absent, and the snake Gríma Wormtongue has altered the deal. Fíriel is not to be a Princess. She is to be pawned off on the King’s disgraced nephew. Éomer, the Third Marshal.

Summary
Kara is at the end of her nursing shift when a violent man is brought in with an arrow wound. When he spits blood on her, Kara is transported elsewhere. Soon she's doing emergency wound care on book characters and trying not to lose it. She can't watch people suffer even if it isn't real, but Aragorn is very suspicious of a woman who tells no clear story and smells like an orc.
“Stranger things have happened than you or I have years to tell of it," Gandalf said. "Why does she unsettle you? Surely you do not feel threatened. I am tolerably certain you could defeat her if it came to violence.”
Aragorn scoffed at his gentle humor. “I’m glad to amuse you. There are more dangers than warriors and swords. Need I tell a wizard that?"
“I can assure you she is not evil and has not a whisper of magic.”
“Yet a beautiful woman appears directly in our path, leagues from civilization, and immediately gains the hobbits’ trust. No wizardry, you say?”
Kara was not *unhappy* at being called a beautiful woman (although his standards for human women, as opposed to elves, were probably low), but she was unhappy to be stuck eavesdropping. She’d seen this scene too many times in movies. They would definitely see her.- Language:

the tiny hobbits get kidnapped by some evil kidnappers who are holding kids from royalty (or in gimli's case tricked them into thinking he's a prince. aragorn and arwen are kinda royalty but also no but I'm counting them)the kids have to go through a bit of hell before they are saved by bilbo but by the time he saves them their far away from any of their kingdoms. they now have to road trip their way back to each of their homes.

The air outside the Prancing Pony didn't smell like the Bree Frodo remembered. It was sharper, cleaner, lacking the heavy scent of industrialized soot that had begun to creep in during the darker days of the War.
"Mr. Frodo," Sam whispered, his voice trembling. He adjusted the straps of his oversized overalls, his lion-like tail twitching nervously behind him. The tuft of golden fur at the end flicked against his calves. "The stars... the stars are all wrong for October. And the gatekeeper... he looked like a lad. A lad who’s been dead twenty years.

"Bilbo," Sam breathed, his brown eyes watering. "It’s him. It’s really him.""He looks so... small," Pippin whispered. "And look at his tail! It’s so fluffy. Since was his tail so fluffy”
Frodo watched his uncle,young, vibrant, and completely unaware of the Ring, the fire, or the burden that would one day break his spirit. A fierce, protective instinct rose in Frodo’s chest. He couldn't let Bilbo go through this alone. Not this time.
"We have to get on that quest," Frodo said, his voice firm.
