Summary
Verso Dessendre is a happy man. He is one of the investors of Lumina Heritage Preservation Fund, he has money, fancy car and fashionable but still dreams about one true love — just like the one his parents have. He finds it in Gustave, a simple construction worker with tragic past and hot body, who one evening saves Verso's ass from been robbed and beaten. They fall for each other despite all odds, social class inequality and their own stubbornness.

Gustave let go of a heavy sigh and nodded his head. Back in the Stone Wave Cliffs, he had come to peace that this was where his journey ended—For those who come after, right?—but it seemed like his story wasn't done just yet. Maelle had, somehow, given him another lease on life, and this time, he could live it. He could grow old. He could do things simply for the sake of doing them; every waking moment didn't have to be dedicated to trying to solve the issue with the Paintress, with preserving their civilization.

But they weren't just friends, although neither was brave enough to admit their crush back then and teenage love was buried when their paths diverted when Verso moved to Paris for university.
Yet now that they are both in Lumière for the Christmas season, those feelings quickly rekindle.

Verso gives in on the Stone Wave Cliffs and saves Gustave. Little does he know what punishment his Painted Father has come up with. Now in a wounded and mortal body he has to overcome both limitations and learn how to survive. If not for himself, then for Maelle.
Gustave's grateful for being saved but he didn't expect to swap bodies with the stranger he didn't even see before. With new set of skills he knows he has to do his best to go after the Paintress.

'What's the reason then?' Verso blurted, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, and crossed his arms.
Gustave's glance flickered to the gesture. His breath instinctively turned shaky, and he rubbed his prosthetic hand over his arm. 'I don't know…just because? Some bird chittered that you liked sweets, so I… uhm –'

We even found a list of rules, look,” he waves a crumpled piece of paper. Reads, “‘Feeling whooo allowed only in designated areas. Inside the house whooo is prohibited’! See?”
“I’m not inside the house,” Gustave objects, just to be an ass — he can feel a smile forming on his lips. “And I’m not ‘whooo’. More like, ‘hmmm’.”
“‘Hmmm’. Is that the official term?”
“Yup,” Gustave lowers his head, examining the wrist connections of the prosthesis.
Or: Gustave finds out that “Barbapapa” is not really compatible with intricate mechanisms. Luckily, Verso is there to help.

Sophie is the first one to come to him.
He opens the door after more than ten minutes of occasional gentle knocking. Not violent by any means, a quiet rasp against the door, incessant only in its repetition and unwillingness to take silence as an answer. He stares down at her when it opens, her hair neatly styled under a bright red hat, fashionable blouse and a skirt that matches her beret, her face twinged with just the slightest bit of annoyance at having to wait so long for him to answer.
“Can I help you?” Verso asks, put out at having to answer the door, at having to use his voice at all, when he’d much rather be curled up in the darkness of his own room, his own mind, while he waits for the next concert to begin.
She pushes past him before he can think to block her path, and immediately heads for the kitchen of his apartment, “You Monsieur, look even worse up close. I knew you hadn't been taking care of yourself the moment I saw you last week on stage. When was the last time you even ate?”
“And what business is it of yours whether I take care of myself?” He asks, his tone sharp, hoping that the bristles of his attitude are enough to annoy her into leaving.

Summary
After crawling out of a too-long stay in the Abyss as a hellion, Verso found his home in shambles, with nothing to return to. His baby sister was missing, his older sister was gone, his mother was institutionalized, and his father was struggling to keep it together.
His first instinct was to find his sister, but when he found her happily in the care of Gustave Aubert and his family, he realized that there was nothing in Lumiere for him anymore.
So, why can't he keep himself from coming back?
