the Montague's and Capulet's have been at each over throats for years over the ownership of lands, status, and their growing rivalry for wealth, now leading to the many devastating losses within the city of Verona. To settle this dispute of pointless blood shed the prince of the lands ordered respite between the families in court casing.
Leading to the arrangement of Romeo and Juliet as suiters to each over to extinguish the flames of their family's wrongdoing. via an arranged marriage to unite the families as one unbeknownst to them Juliet has had affairs with Romeo's cousin Paris in secret for long time's sake and is willing to do anything to break away from this marriage including setting war upon Verona.

Benvolio and Romeo Montague both have very set ideas about what romance, relationships, and love can look like. As they (and their friends) (and their enemies) survive a class on global cultures, both cousins are forced to grapple with their own pride, their own ignorance, the consequences of their actions, and (god help them) other peoples' feelings.
With gratuitous references to Brokeback Mountain, romantic and gothic literature, and 21 Chump Street (???), here's another silly retj chatfic :p

When famous model Mercutio is assigned a new photographer, Tybalt Capulet, everything changes. Tybalt notices Mercutio’s hidden emotions and forced smile almost immediately.
When he digs further into it, it turns much, much darker.What should have been a regular photoshoot for Vogue and finish turned out to be an experience Tybalt will never forget. Ever.
He realises feelings he didn’t even know he had, an urge to protect and care that had been nonexistent to Tybalt for so long. All until that one assignment. Then, everything flipped.

Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.…Or, at least, so the citizens of Verona thought. In truth, there is little dignity and civility left in the feud that has plagued Verona for the longest time – so long, in fact, that nobody seems to be able to remember what caused this terrible conflict in the first place. Pettiness, it seems, is now the driving factor of the ongoing fight between the houses.
The prince’s decree may have created a temporary peace, but when Romeo and Juliet fall in love, even that tentative truce is in danger of falling apart. Somehow, Tybalt has to navigate his feelings for Juliet with not being throttled by Lord Capulet or punching Romeo on first sight while Mercutio works out some interpersonal issues. And then there’s Paris’ proposal to consider… -

What if Capulet got what he wanted? Kind of. Almost.
I was told not to write this, and I didn't listen out of hatred and spite, so enjoy this wonderful piece of art where I put the star-crossed lovers in a modern English secondary school and give out a happy ending, then add in polyamory. (shout out to my teacher who 'inspired' me)
This is going to roughly follow the original plot, but stuff will obviously change, and I'm writing a second arc with Paris after my original take on the story....
Shakespeare would be proud, he told me himself.

There was so much Benvolio would never be able to do with Mercutio now. They would never grow old together, never share a seemingly insignificant night in each other's company, which in contrast meant the world to both of them.
But perhaps Benvolio's biggest regret was how he would never be able to understand Mercutio, left with nothing more than a glimpse of the man beneath his façade.
