It wasn’t until a couple of weeks after moving into the safe house that something started to make Palamedes anxious. It began as a sudden feeling surprising him right when he woke up in Camilla’s body now and then. Her thighs and abdomen tensed and her mouth watering. He put together what it was before he figured out why it was happening. For a horrifying day Palamedes theorized that something about the transition process between their shared consciousnesses was arousing Camilla’s body somehow. Thankfully he found the evidence needed to toss that idea aside in a fit of frantic note-taking. Every single time he had come to to find himself straining not to quiver, Pyrrha had been there.

There’s something flickering and humming about the edges of their irises now, something changing, a carousel of her-him-her-him. Pyrrha pushes against their shoulders and they sink back against the concrete with Hect’s grace and blink up at her with Sextus’ owlishness.
‘You idiots,’ Pyrrha mutters, hovering on her elbows above them. ‘You idiots.’
They grin - a great, foolish, happy grin – and it’s that happiness that does it, the ease of it, the truth. Pyrrha laughs, longer and freer than she has in a long time, kisses first the tip of their nose and then their mouth again. They hum, grin wider, those happy young fools.

Nona took the flatbread and soaked it in the soup, probably to disguise how little of it she was actually eating. "Five more bites," Pyrrha told her, "and we can go to the beach tomorrow, it's my day off." It wasn't, but it wouldn't really matter if she didn't show up to work for one day - no one seemed to expect perfect attendance in the middle of the end of the world, after all.

And now, Palamedes sat across from her again, and his eyes were warm but they were also fierce and she didn’t want to have this argument with him.
“What d’you want from me, boss?” she said as he leaned back in his chair. He had been silent, not answering her question, just watching her with those eyes and she had wanted to shake him out of Camilla so she could talk to her and understand.
“It’s dangerous,” he said, which wasn’t really an answer and certainly wasn’t an answer to the question that Pyrrha had been trying to ask. “For any of us, in this moment, to express those feelings.”
“Oh, are you fucking kidding me?” Pyrrha said. This was her job. It was her job to take care of them, because they were the ones who made stupid, brash decision. Who decided that Nona wasn’t just a weapon of mass destruction, but was instead their best friend. They were best friends who wouldn’t have even spared the two of them a second glance. It made Pyrrha sizzle with so much rage sometimes she almost couldn’t contain it.
