But then Eddie saw a whole pile of kids get in Harrington’s car, and he overheard Nancy Wheeler say that “Steve was babysitting,” and that image didn’t even remotely align with anything Eddie knew about King Steve “The Hair” Harrington, but he figured he didn’t know much, anyway, and it wasn’t any of his business, when it came down to it.
Eddie thought so little of it, in fact, that he had almost forgotten that Max had apparently been babysat by one Steve Harrington. That is, until Steve Harrington started showing up at the trailer park, picking up Max and driving away, and then Eddie wouldn’t see Max at home again for days on end.
Eddie didn’t know much about babysitting, but he was pretty sure the gigs were more of an hourly thing.

And, like clockwork, Max answers by flipping him the bird. “No, Steve, I’m just gonna wait nine months and surprise him with it,” she deadpans. Then, after a beat, “Of course, I told him, moron!”
Steve scowls, throwing his hands up in mock surrender. Yep, he thinks to himself, she’s back. “Okay, geez. Who shit in your cornflakes this morning?”

When Steve goes back to Hawkins Middle after winter break, the desk next to him in Ms. Marcus’s homeroom is suddenly occupied by a boy with a choppy buzzcut and a lopsided smile.
“I’m Eddie,” he says, reaching out to shake Steve’s hand.
Steve can’t remember the last time he shook hands with someone other than one of his father’s business partners, but he takes it anyway. “Steve,” he replies, finding himself unwilling to break eye contact first. There’s something mortifyingly interesting about Eddie, and he kind of just wants to look at him forever.

Eddie Munson dies on a Thursday evening. It’s uneventful, as far as everything else goes, that day. Vecna is nearly vanquished but gets away, and Hawkins splits into four, and Eddie Munson is dead.
He wakes up on Saturday morning.
Weeks later, the Bloody Hand of Vecna makes his way to Hawkins in search of the humans who keep interfering.

“…At least a B- or you get half your money back,” Robin replies, thumbs hooked through the straps of her backpack. “Four pages, that’s ten bucks.”
“Jesus Christ, Buckley, that can’t be legal,” Tommy says, digging around his bag for cash anyway.
“This isn’t legal,” Robin deadpans, holding out a hand to take the slightly crumpled five dollar bills he offers her.
“Right.”
“Thank you for your business.” She waits for him to turn and leave the empty classroom they’d met in. Then, “Stupid fucking asshole.”
