He sounds astounded at his own words, as though this is the most inconceivable sentence he could speak, as though they hadn’t spent the last harrowing half of an hour desperately bargaining for each other’s lives.
“John?”
“No,” says the stranger, blankly, seemingly even more stunned. “No. Not John.”
