Between concern over strange chaos energy emitting from Sonic's storybook and a longing to see a certain knight, Shadow and Sonic both have reasons for wanting to visit the world of Camelot. After finding their way there, Sonic is surprised to discover that, unbeknownst to him before, he, too, has a double — the ruler of the kingdom, a very real King Arthur, who is apparently on horribly bad terms with his closest knight, Sir Lancelot. After a terrible falling out between the two and a life-or-death ultimatum from the king, Shadow shocks everyone by taking Lancelot's place. Now in exile, Lancelot is brought into Sonic's world, and the knight must contend with the often devastatingly drastic differences he encounters. Meanwhile, through a series of events, Shadow eventually finds himself in the position of Arthur's queen; though not all is well as he navigates what that entails and as crises emerge in the kingdom.
As the dynamics in each relationship take shape, the four of them learn more about themselves, each other, and their counterparts than they ever knew before; but when the source of the strange chaos energy makes itself known, all bets are off.
