Summary
Lan Zhan is the consummate noble, devoted to his family and clan and keeping their world safe from the Excrucians who sought the end of all things. Far better to keep these inconvenient desires to himself than to see the cautious distance in Lan Zhan's eyes as he reminded Wei Wuxian of his duty, of both their duties. He would almost certainly stop seeking Wei Wuxian's bed. He wouldn't withhold his friendship, Wei Wuxian is sure of that because Lan Zhan is not cruel, but it wouldn't be the same. Surely it wouldn't remain so warm and easy and good. Wei Wuxian is usually willing to take chances but some things are far too important to risk.
Wei Wuxian is doing his best to keep the world safe and his heart in one piece but when Lan Wangji is in danger and his secrets come to light, he has to take a leap of faith.

Lan Zhan feels his mouth drop open and has to work to shut it.
Wei Ying reacts not at all. He's swinging his feet where he's sitting on the table, a bored expression on his face.
Wen Qing just looks at him. "I am not joking about that."
Wei Ying stops swinging his feet. He blinks several times in a row. "Wait," he says.

Please note: I am more than certain there is a western bent to this fic, unfortunately, particularly around the cultivation angle, and I wish I could have done better with that aspect of it.

"That he is, that he is," Wei Wuxian says. "What about a spouse?" he asks, voice and eyes alight with teasing. "Could a spouse see your face?"
Lan Wangji freezes. "Yes," he says, eventually.
"Huh," Wei Wuxian says, again. The dots are connecting in his mind, bright lines of possibility. "Hey, Lan Zhan!"
"Mn?"
"Marry me!"

“Tell him, Wei Ying,” Huaisang added, eyes gleeful over the edge of his fan.
“It’s going to be just like every other commercial haunted house: some jump scares, a clown swinging around a bladeless chainsaw, half a dozen fog machines, maybe some creepy dolls if we’re lucky.” He swung around to share a cocky grin with his friends. “They’ll be lucky to get a peep out of us, right Lan Zhan?”

Jiang Cheng is just leaning down to kneel for meditation, Sandu in hand, when he hears it. "Riiiiiiiiiib-bit." He looks down at the frog on Sandu’s pommel as it blinks at him. Jiang Cheng stares. Then the frog takes a leap off the pommel and goes sailing in an elegant arc over the balcony to plunk into the lotus lake.
For a moment he can only stare, dumbstruck, at the ripples where the frog landed. He looks down at his sword, now pommelless, and back at the lake.

It’s Baidu that ultimately convinces Lan Wangji that Wei Wuxian is not, in fact, a librarian. The librarians he has encountered in the course of his studies have had varying opinions on search engines, but they have all known what a search engine is. Wei Wuxian’s enthusiasm does little to hide that his practical experience seems somewhat dated.
When he thinks on it–and Lan Wangji finds his thoughts turning toward Wei Wuxian more often than not–Lan Wangji is not sure what Wei Wuxian is. He is always in the library when Lan Wangji visits. It’s quite possible that he lives there, but that is not a claim toward normalcy either.
