Summary
Jonathan Sims is a vampire in 1700s England, turned around a century ago by Elias Bouchard when he "found [him as] a pretty young thing who was throwing his calling and life away working at a library of all places? No - Jonathan Sims with his predisposition for servitude to the Great Eye even if he refused to acknowledge it, would be his." Now he's trapped in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship with his Sire who forces him to kill (or else suffer harsh punishments) and likes to parade him about town on his arm to make sure the townspeople don't forget he's a gay (they don't know what bi means) vampire so he'll be executed should he ever try to leave.
Martin Blackwood lives with his abusive and ill mother, forced to care for her even while she treats him quite badly. He works by day at the bakery and by night at the apothecary under his boss Gertrude and with his colleague, Gerry. One very early morning he's getting ready to leave when a new patient comes in with a stake rammed through his shoulder. This is unusual both because Martin thought he knew everyone in town and because the man was able to drag himself there with such an injury, even though he did pass out in the doorway upon entry.

Summary
In hindsight, knowing his boss was freshly turned was rather funny.
Imagining a stumbling, confused, freshly turned vampire barely keeping himself together scolding him of all people was hilarious. Not that Martin could blame the man, he hadn't taken to the news of his turning well either. Didn’t mean he had to be such a dick though.

Summary
Jon sees too much of his old self in Martin, and he's sure that will get the man killed if he keeps poking around the supernatural. It's what happened to him after all—Jonathan Sims hasn't had a pulse in months. Not that it puts Martin off at all. He's as drawn to his sardonic new vampire acquaintance as he is rightly afraid of him.
So begins a new working relationship that might turn into something more... if the nefarious forces of London and their own personal demons don't tear them apart first.

Summary
For all intents and purposes, the trip to Sightsburgh was supposed to be simple. Or at least somewhat simple, a job they stayed at for maybe a month at most, then got sent away. Of course, nothing was that simple for Jon, and everything continues to spiral out of control.
Namely, getting turned into a vampire. And as a monster hunter (read; vampire hunter), that certainly complicates things.
