“Jesus,” Shane says, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you talk so much.”
“You like my voice, da? So is no problem, for you.”
“Fuck you. Do you mean sci-fi?”
Rozanov makes a triumphant sound. “Yes, that! Sci-fi. B1 look like that meme of a cat’s face covered in cream. Ugly car. So, at least I have better choice. I can look at it and not wish to drive it off cliff and into garbage land.”
“...You’re thinking of a landfill.”
Or, Ilya keeps calling Shane at odd hours to talk about nothing and everything, usually while he’s inebriated or sleep-deprived. Shane, for some reason he can’t quite rationalize, keeps answering.

Summary
Shane Hollander has built himself around routine, his life blood is hockey. Struggling to understand his team off the ice and the people around him, he carves out a few silent hours to himself. It's just him and his skates. But the hard fought peace is fragile, like cracks in too thin ice. It only takes a slight impact to shatter. Shane is fighting to hold his team and himself together as everything comes crashing down around him.
Someone hacks into Rose Landry's phone in a club, they then release the images of Shane's texts online and all hell breaks loose. Shane is left to pick up the pieces. Ilya makes some choices in the aftermath that change everything. Shane decides to stop hiding and Ilya is a possessive asshole who makes it everyone else's problem. With far less reason to hide himself anymore, Shane begins to show more of who he really is behind the polite, media worthy façade. They instead find a team who are ready to fight the world for each other and a found family that has far reaching threads.
Maybe Shane can have both Hockey and Ilya. The world will just have to deal with it.

Summary
Shane thinks about Ilya; thinks about the glorious gasping surprise of Shane and considers that he has made an absolutely fucking massive mistake somewhere along his way here but he has no idea what it was. Behind his eyelids he thinks about his own name choked out like a confession and thinks about the Ilya that seemed to come so naturally, and wishes desperately that he'd done something differently. Something, almost anything, but he doesn't know what, can't pin the thought down. He has no idea what he's wishing for except for different.
As it turns out, once they're in motion there's nothing that can keep his eyes open, and he sleeps.
There's a dream that feels like turning inside out, like stretching and rebounding, like a path cleared and his is the first skate that touches the ice after the Zamboni leaves it, and he wakes —
