Summary
“I’m not concerned about the time commitment or anything, kid," Rhemann insists. "Gardening is a hobby—something I enjoy. Do you feel put-upon when you garden here or at your place?”
Jean traces a thumb over the small, fuzz-filled dents in his peach. He shakes his head, because truly, it is quite the opposite.
“Exactly. And I’ve been wanting to grow a tree for a while now. Cody mentioning that you like peaches was just a catalyst, not the whole reason. Got me?”
Jean huffs out through his nose—a bold move. “Yes, Coach.”
---
Or: Jean Moreau and James Rhemann plant a tree. Jeremy, Adi, Laila, and Cat nourish it in their own ways. The roots grow strong.

Summary
Slowly, Jeremy raised his head to look at Jean. Jean nervously licked away the sweat on his upper lip.
“Jean-Yves Moreau,” Jeremy intoned, and Jean’s stomach dipped traitorously. It didn’t help that Jeremy stepped closer, and Jean’s eyes darted to his, alarmed. He stalked forward, slow, until his hands settled firmly on either side of Jean’s face, his mouth twisted in displeasure, his beautiful brown eyes burning a hole into Jean’s retinas. “You told me you took your medication yesterday. Now, have I forgotten how to count, or have you forgotten that you agreed not to lie to my face?”
Jean swallowed, then nearly coughed when he found nothing but dry air in his throat.
Jeremy smushed his cheeks together until Jean’s lips puckered. He knew he looked ridiculous, but the brief twitch of a fond smile on Jeremy’s face loosened something in his chest anyway. It immediately settled back into a stern frown.
“I believe the former is most likely, Captain. English majors are not known for their mathematical capabilities, yes?”
Or: In which Jean Moreau is free to be a little shit for the first time in his life, and Jeremy eats it right up.
