In the turmoil, no one noticed the deafening smack overboard, masked by the roar of an engine and a machine-gun burst.
“Damn!” - thought Senku, finding himself in the cold water. Too distracted by his worst fears, he didn't have time to grab onto anything when Ryusui abruptly added speed.
Climbing out of the water, Senku quickly tried to take cover in the grass thickets. It wasn't exactly inconspicuous, but he hoped that in the heat of the chase the adversary wouldn't notice the slight rippling of the coastal grasses.
The sound of the engine could still be heard echoing in the distance, but no machine gun fire could be heard.
That meant either that the attackers had fallen behind and lost sight of them, or...
...they switched to another target.
It was quiet, but he knew where this could be going.
And if he wasn't going to lose his life right this moment, then that meant the enemy needed a very specific thing.
Information. From their point of view, he had nothing more valuable than that.
If that's true, he's not gonna die that easily. At least not right away.
However...
- Freeze.
Well, Gen had always said his luck was low.

Senku’s eyes sank shut again, but the image of Xeno, doing something that his aching head didn’t quite process, remained vividly. The sensation of those hands, thin and smooth, on his shoulder, too, is burned into his memory, replaying ten billion times each second.
Finally returning to the young boy’s side after what only felt like a millisecond to the younger, Xeno broke the ever-present silence that had settled into the office over the past moment.
His voice was soft to Senku’s ears - painfully so - as he spoke up.
“Senku, you said you were having a migraine. Does this happen frequently?”Xeno's profession as a school nurse dictates his priorities all around the clock. The notion that an attachment to a child that is not of his own is "unprofessional" or "unhealthy" might live in his conscious mind, but these growing feelings for a very special patient of his might suffocate him soon. Each step into Senku's direction gets him entangled in yet another conspiracy.
