John’s brow furrows, and his mouth arcs downward. “You love detecting,” he says faintly.

John and Sherlock stay at the hospital with their ill six-year-old son the entire time. When things take a turn for the worse, Sherlock leaves. He comes back, realizing his mistakes, but there's nothing that can be done for the child.

{"Am I dying?” the boy finally asks, his cheek pressed against John’s button down shirt as he keeps his eyes on the movie, “They did a bunch of tests today and now you’re acting like I’m dying.”
“Yes, you are,” Sherlock answers simply in between tapping on his mobile phone and it takes every pore and ounce of strength in John’s body not to reach over and throttle him on the spot.
“Oh, Sherlock, Jesus,” John growls, “You can’t just say thing like that-”
“Oh,” Hamish says with startling clarity, not taking his eyes off the movie. His speech is growing slower with medication now and John can feel the tiny body become even more malleable against his own, “You’re going to fix it though.”
“Yes, of course we’re going to fix it, Hamish.”}

Summary
Potter is utterly livid. He turns on himself, but stops at the door’s skirt. There’s a beat of silence and Draco doesn’t look, clamps his eyes shut, holds his breath. Potter says it on an exhale, so that it rings true and honest and crystal clear to Draco’s ears.
“You’re not worth it, anyway.”
It’s another blow to the head, a contravention with Draco’s name on it, a new poison to be served at breakfast. Draco doesn’t think he could shrink into himself any further if he tried. Potter walks away and he must be halfway gone already when Draco hears him say, low and resentful, in a manner that reminds him of his own father.
“Your father said: forgive me.”

SPOILERS for the entire plot:
After Lucius’s death, Harry visits Draco in Azkaban to leave him a message. Draco is in terrible shape (broken jaw, malnourished, powerless). Two years pass, and Draco is free. Harry is struggling with his own shadow, but Draco does everything he can to avoid him. Malfoy gives away everything he owns, gets rid of the manor, frees the house-elves, and writes letters of apology to everyone except Harry. Time passes but his wounds do not heal. Harry ends up reading the letter Draco never sent him and manages to save him just in time under the Aurora Borealis in Norway. Months later, they meet again at Hermione’s gala, where Harry asks Draco to help him make his home less hostile, and Draco agrees. They inevitably end up together (with Harry feeding him), and Harry gives Draco the perfect room (and love) he had always imagined.

Sherlock spends his time flying around the world on the family's private jet drinking a lot and shopping at expensive boutiques as a way of trying to alleviate his endless boredom. His mother decides it's time he settles down with someone powerful, wealthy and well connected. John Watson happens to be none of those things.
