That is, of course, until he attacked UA with a gang of villains. Izuku didn't recognise him automatically, the adrenaline was rushing though his body and all he could think was ‘how could someone do this?” and "I don't want to die.”
summary; when izuku was younger, him and shigaraki had occasionally met and became friends as years past. 3 years later, they reunite as oppposite sides and are forced to overcome that in order to win
