“Do you wanna tell me why you're stressed or do you not wanna talk about it?” Stan asks. Kyle screws his face up like he’s going to snarl something smart, but bites down on his bottom lip instead, rubbing at his reddened right eye and shrugging.
“You’ll just think I’m being stupid and dramatic,” he says.
Stan shrugs and tries for wry wit.
“Stupid? Never. Dramatic? Maybe.”
Kyle’s eyes narrow in a poisonous expression, the kind that would make a lesser man wilt. Wrong choice of words, definitely wrong choice of words.
Kyle is upset. Stan tries to comfort him in the best ways he knows how.

Kyle smells him before he sees him. He’s sure it's him, because somewhere deep down, it's a smell he’s always known. Something so distinct and comforting that it has Kyle nearly melting into a pile of goo on the floor right there. Snow capped evergreen trees; fresh, winter wind as it billows through the long grass at Stark’s pond; subtle, earthy leather, newly tanned.
Stan appears at Wendy’s side and all but rips her hand away from Kyle.
"Get away from him," Stan snarls.
Kyle is the last person in their class to present. It's a whole thing.
