" The air hit his face and he threw off the surgical mask he had been hiding under. The sudden smell of fresh air hit him like a wave and he gave himself a moment to embrace it. (It reminded him of those times he had spent all night in their basement, the home-y smell of upstairs, the rising sun and Dan's snoozing from down the hall as the weight of his work washed over him.)
He tried to gather his thoughts, assess his situation. Still… hm… 2? 3? broken ribs, a bad leg - he doesn't even know what's wrong with it - everything slightly ached, that's nothing new. And of course, he had a dead friend in need of an industrial cooler as soon as possible. He gripped the handle of the bed and located where their car was parked.
— Alright — he said with finality. — Let's get you home, Danny."
After failing to bring back Meg to life, Dan goes back to the mourge to save his last bit of hope left - Spoilers! It goes bad for him! Now it's up to Herbert to bring his lost friend back to life, and, maybe, bone at the end of all this? We'll see.
